Re: Connecting different types of "Ethernet cables" - possible?

For a 10 meter run the minor differences between Cat 5 & Cat 6 (or 7) won't matter. If you have an old Cat 3 cable involved it may limit the speed to 100 mb/s (or even 10 if it has deteriorated over the years). Just make sure you are using a straight-through coupler if it's intended to replace a lon...

Re: Audacity (Cannot update from the MX Test Repo)

OK, the necessary files are back in the Test repo and Audacity is now installable from the Package Installer.

Let us know how it's working for you.

Re: Audacity (Cannot update from the MX Test Repo)

It looks like ffmpeg was upgraded in the Test repo, but Audacity was not rebuilt with the new version.
Let me see if I can get those bits back in the Test repo without messing up the new version...

Re: MX-17.1: What can you use a PS/2 port for (other than connecting a mouse or a keyboard to it)?

Hard to give a precise date with all the different variations, but Intel split the keyboard controller & usb (and a bunch of other stuff) into their PCH (platform controller hub) circa 2008. AMD did something similar with the FCH (fusion controller hub) circa 2010. Those moves gave the improved isol...

Re: MX-17.1: What can you use a PS/2 port for (other than connecting a mouse or a keyboard to it)?

Normally one would see it right away - however I have seen some weird behavior on old (pre-pentium) machines with damaged ps2 ports. The IBM PC keyboard controller was hooked to the CPU A20 line. Due to an IBM hack when the IBM AT using the 286 processor was introduced, the A20 line also affected me...

Re: Security/surveillance camera & compatible software

Seems that when using analog CCTV cameras, the cable's resistance has to match the length of the cable connection (please correct me if I'm wrong). The characteristic impedance of the cable (and the connectors) should match what the camera is expecting. Nearly all video equipment that has a coaxial...

Slick-greeter is now available in the MX-17 Test repository.

Re: Slick Greeter

I'll have a look to see whether it will backport

Just know that upgrading core libraries like libc6 is a good way to break your system. That's why we have the Package Request Forums

Re: Error: Can not find a source to download version «18.8» of «mx-repo-manager: amd64» ???

I have added the dependency to the MX-15 pool, so if you Reload (or sudo apt-get update from a terminal) you should be able to complete the update.
n.b. - mxrepo.com & the three *.mxrepo.com mirrors now have this file - other MX mirrors will get the update on their normal schedules.
