Let's check a setting that has caused users some problems in the past. Right Click on the network manager icon in the panel. Select Edit Connections... Select Wired connection 1 and press Edit Select the General tab. Two checkboxes should be checked Automatically connect to this network when it is a...

Re: Steam not working / Uploads not working

You have a Realtek 8111h ethernet chipset. Realtek suggests using the non-free r8168 driver for that chipset instead of the open source r8169 driver present in the kernel. To build the r8168 driver, install the r8168-dkms package. This package builds the non-free driver and disables the one you are ...

Re: Help With Debian LibreOffice Security Advisory?

The version we have in MX is technically but not practically vulnerable. The exploit allows a downloaded document to run python modules already present on the system. The version in MX (unlike later versions) doesn't allow any parameters to be passed, meaning that another exploit would be needed to ...

Re: "error" message when installing via MXPI

The needrestart package which is throwing the error has been updated in backports. I would try using MXPI to install it from backports to see if it corrects the issue.

Re: MX 18.1 is a no go

Reading through the Ubuntu thread, it seems the recommended way to get that computer to boot is to press e at the grub screen so you can edit the boot line, then add these parameters after the existing "quiet" parameter. ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 clocksource=hpet iommu=on amd_iom...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

Well done. The automatic location data is correct unlike some other weather sites which auto-locate me in one or another of the nearby cities. Looks from the formatting like it defaults to weather-source 3 for my location. tim@mx15:~ $ pinxi -xxxw --weather-source 0 Weather: Temperature: 21 C (70 F)...

Re: MX Linux gains distrowatch "Major" Linux distribution status

Major Distributions: Debian, Red Hat/Fedora, Suse, Gentoo, Arch, Slackware.
Nearly all the other distros lead back to - and rely on - one of those. We're good, but we're not Debian.

But buster's right, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Re: Alert: Update Libreoffice to 6.0.7 / 6.1.3

Hmmm, we use the stretch-backports packages for libreoffice. They seem to have skipped 6.1.4 and now have 6.1.5~rc1-2 in backports. Those in an environment where they have to be worried about this attack vector (which is not most home users) should upgrade libreoffice from backports with MXPI. If we...
