Re: Planning to install old external windows drive

Please could you explain what you are trying to achieve?

Do you already have MX installed on an internal drive?
What are you wanting the external drive to do?

Re: My PC not booting MX at all (doesn't even get to GRUB)

All it can do is trying to boot with PXE Forget about PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) - it is a form of booting used when you don't have an installed OS, but have the necessary files for booting stored on a network server somewhere. The only reason your BIOS is trying to do that is because it c...

Boot live and run GSmartControl. Select your HDD, then look in the error log. If nothing is shown, run the long self-test.

Re: Snapshot problem

It isn't a fault with the Snapshot tool, it's a warning message that the ISO you have created may not work on all machines due to its size. The limitation, if there is one, will be due to the BIOS on the machine you are using to boot the Snapshot from. I have had this message in similar circumstance...

Re: Setting up MX-17.1 to work as a PC-based Wi-Fi router system

Surely the only realistic way of doing this is with a wireless access point? It will be plug-and-play, and would be an order of magnitude cheaper to run. Using UK prices, a rough calculation is that the WAP would pay for itself in around 9 months when compared to running a PC just for that task. Chris

Re: The end of spinning rust...

Until you have experienced Linux on a reasonably modern machine, with an SSD boot drive, you wouldn't understand why they are the best modification you can make!

Re: USB port not working

Many laptops (and some desktops) only have USB drivers in the BIOS for one set of ports. They rely on OS drivers for the others, and so wouldn't have been detected until on OS was installed.

A range of Dell laptops I use has this issue; you can only USB boot from one of the ports.

Small Whisker menu change

It seems difficult for new users to find the manual. I wondered if a small change might help?

If the 'Comment' line of the Manual entry was changed from 'Orientation and Information' to 'Help and Information', then a new user who typed 'help' into the Whisker menu would see the Manual entry.

Re: Scanner Issues

One other thought - are you able to check with a Windows machine that it is working?

I love Canon hardware - their inkjet printers and scanners are the best, but why oh why is hardware support such a lottery? I would rather they just said they won't support Linux at all!
