Re: wine installation troubles

I tested this OK during development, and I've just installed it OK from the PI.

I only launched, then closed the config tool, so didn't test functionality, but it definitely installed OK.

Re: Replacing DVD Drive

Once you have replaced it and restarted, your drive will be recognised. No action on your part should be needed.

Re: Sharing a complete hard disk

My guess: ⋅ the Samba GUI utility operates under User privileges, and therefore creates the share with that level of folder permissions. ⋅ If you manually change the folder permissions of the shared folder, I doubt you'd see this problem. ⋅ Accessing the USB shared fol...

Re: Sharing a complete hard disk

Just to make absolutely sure that the mount point was the problem, I recreated the situation by doing a fresh install on a laptop, and attached a USB HDD. I then set up a Samba share using the utility from the menu, added the suggested text to samba.conf, and found it was the same - I could see the ...

Re: panel

If you need help with basic configuration and usage, may I suggest you have a look at the excellent manual? It can be accessed from the menu, or by pressing Alt-F1. You can search it by pressing Ctrl-F. Had you done this, then typed 'panel', you would have found the answer to your query easily. Don'...

Re: Sharing a complete hard disk

D_O, thanks for your reply - you've fixed it for me! Of all the things I tried, I never thought the mount point would matter. As long as the remote machines could 'see' the disk, I felt it should be possible to access the contents. That seems to not be the case. The original machine had the data dis...

Re: Hello from new member

Welcome, and I'm pleased MX-17 is working well for you.

During development, a Dell D630 was one of the machines I used to test on; they are indeed trusty, and built like tanks. It should serve you very well.
