Re: New Convert

Perhaps worth bearing in mind that if you are like me you want know as much as you can about anything you use, but Linux is such a big subject that the best approach might be to just learn what you need to enjoy your OS. After all, how many car drivers nowadays have any understanding of what goes on...

Re: Anyone buying the new Rpi 4?

The OS for the Pi - Raspian - has lots of optimisation, and specifically optimised programs. Much as I love MX Linux, I'm afraid I don't see the need to create a version for the Pi. Chris Don't particularly see a need other than being able to run MX and take snapshots and the like, but other that t...

Re: Can we get a "NEWBIE" section

"Newbie" is such a ninny word. How about using the term "Greenhorn"? Greenhorn has a much richer pedigree, www.nytimes.com/1991/06/23/magazine/on-language-greenhorn.html and just sounds way cooler. Just a thought, Infodude , a recent MX greenhorn loving persistence on a USB stick. Newbie is fairly ...

Re: Can we get a "NEWBIE" section

Perhaps a work-around might be to include 'Newbie' in the title of any query?

I've been here a while, but still consider myself at the earliest stages of learning, so would be more inclined to look at a query that I might be able to answer, in a way that someone at my level might understand.

Re: Anyone buying the new Rpi 4?

I wonder about durability of these little computers. They are very good in that respect; an unexpected use of them is in industrial applications, and they have proved themselves up to the task. One of mine has been on 24/7 for about two years, another for three years. The first is in the open, sat ...

Re: MX Linux Facebook group

I always find it hilarious when people complain about 'privacy' on Facebook. As if they are posting on their refrigerator in their kitchen when they are actually posting on a fence in Central Park. What part of 'social' don't you understand? Indeed, and the privacy options in Facebook now are compr...

Re: MX Linux Facebook group

Must admit I cringe when I see the words "MX Linux Facebook group". But I'm glad someone is willing to get into the slime to help those interested in MX. After over 25 years on Usenet, Facebook is a calm, peaceful haven! The local area FB group where I live has over 26,000 members - 25% of the popu...

You can right-click the updater icon and select 'History' as a first step, perhaps.

Re: Samba auto connects to devices like Ubuntu

Thank you. The printer could also connects driverlessly too. No need to configure it.... Surely that would be hard to implement for every single printer manufacturer and so many models? Very much so, but the first time you start the 'Add printer' dialogue, and see your printer is already there, is ...
