Re: [Solved] GSmart Partition Error on Install?

S.M.A.R.T attribute numbers can be easily read and explained, so keeping to the simplest items...... 4 = how many times the drive has started and stopped. Compare with Attribute 12 and 193 to get a picture of how the drive was used. 5 = the count of reallocated sectors. Every spinning platter drive ...

Re: Keeps failing to connect to wifi

when i try connect to wifi it just tries and then pops up that password window but password is right and it just fails to connect. Firsty, why did you need to install a driver? usually, MX selects the right driver for your WLAN device. If you messed with the driver without fully understanding the w...

Re: Keeps failing to connect to wifi

Some cheap Wifi routers can be troublesome with some network cards. My E330 Intel 2nd Gen based laptop sometimes chokes with older consumer grade TP-Link Access points.

Re: VLC with dual monitor

I find things like "it works on ubuntu but not Debian" one of those statements that has little relevance to what I call the real world of Debian. Ubuntu is not Debian, even though they take a snapshot of a few Debian repos and build from there. Ubuntu incorporates many work-arounds , some clever and...

Re: VLC with dual monitor

Looks to me like it's the modesetting video driver in use. Your VGA chip is quite an old one and to get truly usable video, it needs all the help it can get, ergo the Intel driver. I don't know how much of a difference it will make on such an old chip, but it's really worth a try, besides, it is ful...

Re: Need to improve video on Lenovo X120e

smxi comes to mind from forum member H2-1 I used to use this tool a fair bit to install graphics drivers, command line through a virtual terminal. It usually worked well for nVidia drivers, not quite so good with AMD Radeon, but when it did, it was great despite the stern telling off for using radeo...

Re: Formatting USB drive

Just caught up on this thread, keep the password, pure idiocy to remove it because a user would poke the finger saying "you (MX) broke this....", but if a password is required, then they have been satiated with all the notifications and warnings, therefore their actions are completely in their own c...

Re: Windows tablet

This type of apparatus is designed to only allow Windows with a signed Secure boot installation to run from hard disk drive. You can successfully run Live Linux distros like MX from USB if you can turn off secure boot, but the device will fail to operate the bootloader if it is installed to hard dis...

Re: Can't Open/Use VLC

It wants to open a windows that's less than 0 pixels in size, most likely a config error. Delete your ~/.config/vlc folder and try opening vlc again. The folder will be recreated and repopulated with the default settings for vlc. Nothing of value is lost when deleting vlc user configs, unless your p...

Re: [SOLVED] Synaptic shows errors / during install of packages

I got this for the first time yesterday when updating a VBox install. The error messages are benign, a bug was filed originally in 2005 but with slightly different wording which the synaptic devs changed to read a little differently. It causes no issues and can be safely ignored. The latest version ...
