Repeat offender, Acer Swift SF314-41 boot issue
Referring to a post I made on the 31st Jan 2023, having had to deal with this issue again today, I'd like to postulate a superior method of making this machine work with this dumbest of dumb NVME EFI boot implementations ever to be used on a laptop. https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=711500#p...

Re: Document Scanner asking for root pw
:duh: Well, how about that, I had totally forgotten that I reloaded my laptop before MX went final, but, it was not an alpha, it was a beta release that I built specifically for this machine and despite the dating appearing to be from the alpha phase, it was barely a week before the final. This is b...

Document Scanner asking for root pw
Am I the only one seeing this or has it been seen before? I did a search but didn't see any relevant results. I'm the only user on this machine and my user acct is in the scanners group so I don't see why this would be coming up, unless it's something connected to my recent kernel upgrade. If anyone...

Re: Thunderbird deposting temp files on desktop [Solved]
OK, thanks for reaching out. I never connected your avatar to difficulties using the terminal, I get it now. If you changed the permissions of the /tmp folder off the root of your drive, as you indicated in post #9 on the first page, the 3 one-liner commands will bring it back into line and avoid po...

Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
I read the DW review, not at all impressed with the reviewer, but that's their job and ours is to rise above them and show them we're the grown ups and they're "that kid" who wants everything for nothing then disrespects what they have and thinks they have a right to do so. :fishslap: As f...

Re: Thunderbird deposting temp files on desktop [Solved]
edit---- Oops, posted this before reading the 2nd page, thinking your /tmp permissions change were the fixand saw an alarm bell related to modifying a system folder. /edit---- Changing the /tmp folders permissions should not be necessary to achieve the result and it goes against both the normal Unix...

Re: Questions on system upgrade to MX23.2, LUKS & Hibernation
In my video at 4m20s - 4m30s, did you notice that when I selected the home partition, the installer automatically selected the right option under the Format column? Go back to the video, forward to the location and pause it at 4m27s. Observe the contents of the installer screen and esp what you see ...

Re: Better CPU = Better VM ??? [Solved]
When you treat a VM as you would a physical machine, you'll get the same benefits. Go for the max core count and speed possible and the max RAM you can afford, these will pay off in dividends. Here's a real world extreme example of my own use in 2016 so you can get a better handle on what to expect....

Re: Better CPU = Better VM ??? [Solved]
Upping the processor when keeping with the same Intel generation will have no detrimental effect. I've done some radical processor changes from a pedestrian 2 core AMD to the biggest monster the motherboard can handle. What I discovered from that exercise was that the RAM quality had a much larger i...
