The 4.9 is very stable for me and happy to see it fully mitigated, for what it's worth.

Both the new 4.19. and 4.9 kernels are fully mitigated
according to spectre-meltdown-checker, as root,
on the T430.

Is there some sort of way to blacklist libbabl-0.1-0 1:0.1.28-dmo1, or just libbabl-0.1-0 from being checked for update ?
You can do it from Synaptic.
Or with aptitude.

If you reinstall, someday, you can choose the system language
from the opening page of the installer. Changes the installer to system lang, also.

I think it is a quirk in update-grub.
Was told several years ago,
that if the first run fails, run again.
Some run it twice, just in case.

Never heard a reason why?
Perhaps a late change in permissions?
