Re: Need help with updater

You can also run the command below to see if Unattended Upgrades have been enabled (when disabled it should show "0"). But if you can't even get the rightclick menu to come up, it's unlikely that you've changed the setting with the Preferences dialog. apt-config dump | grep 'APT::Periodic::Unattende...

Tried second right clicking and waiting. Nothing
I'm not sure why you're not getting the rightclick actions, it should be bringing up a menu that looks something like this:

Right click doesn't do anything.
You might need to right click a second time (wait a little while between clicks) to get the rightclick menu to come up.

dcihon@mx:/etc$ apt-notifier pkill: killing pid 15389 failed: Operation not permitted pkill: killing pid 15389 failed: Operation not permitted dcihon@mx:/etc$ grep: write error: Broken pipe You're getting those errors because you started it with sudo (which I said you shouldn't do). This should kil...

Re: youtube-dl package showing false update

.... I think we have some other packages with the same double suffix in the repos, however. I'm not in MX17/18 right now, but I think these are the only packages I see in the MX15/16 repos with the double suffixes $ grep ~bpo /var/lib/apt/lists/*binary-* | grep ~mx | grep deb$ | awk '{print $2}' po...

Re: youtube-dl package showing false update

It looks like it's possible to put non architecture specific packages (*_all.deb -- which youtube-dl is) in a binary-all archive|repo, for example debian shows a binary-all archive|repo here: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian9.6/main/ If you did that, and pulled the *_all.deb packages out...

Re: Need help with updater

Can you please open a terminal (F4) and enter this command: sudo apt-notifier then highlight all, right-click to copy and paste back here The apt-notifier (aka MX Updater) is meant to be run as a regular user so you shouldn't start it with sudo. If the icon never turns green indicating that updates...

Re: Wow, somebody was busy uploading our ISOs to archive.org

Can you regenerate isos from burned CDs?

I think I might still have some old MEPIS CDs around here somewhere, like 2003.10 and SimplyMepis2004.

Re: Warning MX Updater

Yes, if you can catpure the warning get rid of it, as "dialog" ( the nc-cursor dialog) is the default fallback and shall work always. :puppy: Is the O.P. (f.denys) getting that error because he doesn't have debconf set to use Gnome as it's frontend? I thought that had been fixed already (frontend s...

Re: Warning MX Updater

Maybe i'll try to add DISPLAY to sudoers, but i am reluctant changing sudoers... Don't do that. We need to check/fix mx updater, to handle this properly. I'm not sure how to fix it. I don't see the warning here but I'm running a MX-16.x install (I'd have to doublecheck but I don't think I see it in...
