Is it the case that it MUST be rebooted for that to work? I did not see that mentioned anywhere so far, but that could just be me missing that it was mentioned somewhere.
Reloading the repos (after doing what Tim posted) should fix it.

Re: MX Updater does not warn if wrong root password entered

I'll be changing the password request for opening Synaptic to what's shown below. synaptic-root-password-request.png I'm not sure a warning is necessary, for english locales anyway. When the password is entered incorrectly gksu puts up the dialog again with a " Incorrect password... try again. " lin...

Re: My copy of MX can't carry out today's updates

It's probably caused by the MX-15/16 repo's expired gpg key, for the fix see this topic here: viewtopic.php?p=480507#p480507

Re: MX Updater does not warn if wrong root password entered

Most of the instances where MX Updater requests the root password it tells you so in the gksu dialog so I think it would be fairly obvious that that's the password that needs to be entered. The only action I'm aware of without it is the one presented to open Synaptic, and I can change that dialog fa...

Re: APT vulnerability

I did the updates yesterday when they came through Synaptic. I wasn't then aware of the need to do apt -o Acquire::http::AllowRedirect=false update apt -o Acquire::http::AllowRedirect=false upgrade should I now remove those packages and run these codes and reinstall? You can't really remove and rei...

Re: update-initramfs: wrong kernel

Does anyone know if there is a way to always have all initrd's rebuilt (make "-uk all" the default) I mean when the package manager needs to invoke it, so the user does not have to think of building the extra ones. I haven't tried it, but the changing update_initramfs=* setting from 'yes' to 'all' ...

I know I need to execute update-initramfs with the all kernel option, is this -a ?
To update the initrds of all installed kernels with the update-initramfs command, use -u together with -k all.

Code: Select all

sudo update-initramfs -u -k all

Re: Live USB stick with MX_18 boots to blinking cursor or black screen

Sure! But it might make more sense to only add it with live-usb-maker. live-cd/dvds and "dd-live-usbs (which I'm now calling collectively live-isos) can't easily make use of such a feature since they are read-only. That would work too. Being able to install packages during bootup by putting them in...

BitJam,

Would it be possible to create the isos with the deb folder already in place (without any .debs of course) and maybe include a README file to explain it's use?

Thank you for your reply.

The USB with MT_LINUX_18.iso doesn't have antix folder. Am I missing something?

LiveUSBs created from MX (and antiX) isos should have a antiX folder.

So yes you are missing something (or not looking for it in the right place).
