Re: New inxi feature, /sys based usb data

I have something strange with how it shows the serial number of my fitbit dongle. It doesn't show up in a forum post when I paste the terminal output into a code block so I'm posting an image (attachment) instead. I think the problem might be some kind of unicode error.

Re: I've done something to stop apt-notifier from working properly with root permissions

Have you posted an updated deb package anywhere that I can use to fix this? I updated the .deb package and had Tim add it to the repos, so it should be showing up soon as an update. You can also grab it here: http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/a/apt-notifier/apt-notifier_18.08.10mx17+1_all.deb and...

Re: Featherpad, (can't apply the selected font)

We did have the same problem with the old version of Featherpad--I think it was 0.6.1 like the old version in that Fedora report. I reported it to the developer, and it was fixed within a couple days. The original poster, Scott(0), didn't mention which MX release he was using, MX-15/16 have version...

Re: I've done something to stop apt-notifier from working properly with root permissions

..., but I'm not sure how much effort to put into it. For Debian Buster I'm going to have to change over to using pkexec when requesting root privileges instead of using gksu (or kdesu) ... It looks like it wouldn't take that much to disable the code that's checking the desktop type, and just force...

Re: I've done something to stop apt-notifier from working properly with root permissions

Prior to requesting root privileges, the apt-notifier first uses the xprop command below to try to determine if the user is in a KDE session or something else (i.e. XFCE, etc.). xprop -root | grep -q -i kde Unfortunately it looks like 'kde' also shows up in the output when running in a LXDE session ...

Re: Trying to work the AUDIO problem...

So next step... dpkg-reconfigure alsa-base then results in this error dpkg-query: package 'alsa-base' is not installed and no information is available Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files, and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents. /usr/sbin/dpkg-rec...

Re: Kernel updates

What has happened in previous development cycles is a lot of kernels move in and out of the backports repo until the developers settle on the kernel version that the next Debian Stable will release with. When that happens support for the earlier kernel backports usually goes away (even those that ar...

Re: Kernel updates

That's weird 4.14 will be the lts kernel. Buster will go into freeze this coming winter: https://release.debian.org/buster/freeze_policy.html It will have the 4.16 kernel, or higher. I can't imagine they will replace the kernel. I guess I assumed Debian Stable used an lts kernel, but perhaps not? I...
