Thank you ! :yay:

easy and working

i've no bcmwl-kernel-source but after install of firmware-b43-installer and reboot ,wlan is up (light on the laptop)
Glad to help!

MX comes with firmware-b43-installer installed by default, so I don't know why that would have made it work.

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

Question How do I make sure that tthe Nvidia is removed?? ... Kind of a funny place for it, but this explains how to remove the debianized nvidia driver https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo#Installation If you have previously used the non-free nvidia proprietary driver, then you need to uninstall it if...

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

Sort of what I was guessing, a whole lot of diversions remaining from the old nvidia install.
It looks like glx-diversions is responsible for most of them, try purging it and reinstalling libgl1-mesa-glx again.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge glx-diversions

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --reinstall install libgl1-mesa-glx

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

What's the output of these?

Code: Select all

ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so*

Code: Select all

dpkg-divert --list | grep -i gl

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

Still doesn't look right, it doesn't say anything about diversions, but it doesn't include these two lines:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1.2.0

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

That's what I got. Should I install this: package 'libgl1-mesa-glx:i386' I didn't know if you had both amd64 and i386 packages installed or not but I thought they might be so I gave you the command to list both, you don't need to install the i386 one. That said, the output you posted doesn't look r...

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

Good, you know OpenGL works (in a Live Session anyway). Back on the harddrive install, does the output of the command below say anything about diversions? I think the debianized nvidia driver diverts libGL.so.1 during installation, the diversion might not have been undone when you removed the nvidia...

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

Did not change anything after the reinstall. Hmm, I thought reinstalling the glx package might fix it. I seem to recall that the libGL.so.1 symlink used to be a problem back when I used the nvidia driver, what usually happened though was the glx package would get an update and break the nvidia inst...

Re: old NVIDIA to Radeon R9 290

The board that I put in is a Sapphire Vapor-x R9 290, a few years old, not the latest. I do think I need to add some thing as there is no OpenGL or Mesa . Note this was computer was updated to MX-18 from MX-17. Here is the info. Graphics: Device-1: AMD Hawaii PRO [Radeon R9 290/390] vendor: PC Part...

Re: Synaptic

I can think of several options: 1) Is that green normal? I have seen it appear in my list as well, it seems random, but it doesn't transfer to the skin, so it's ok It doesn't really look random to me, I think the green ones are commented out (disabled) repo entries, none of them are checkmarked.
