Re: Bad idea to switch?

Fibogacci, I have an ancient, 1998 laptop that runs I think Debian etch, can't remember, with fluxbox, 192 mB of ram, slow, but works, but can't run a new linux. Has a 1 gB ssd. I think that laptop shipped with something like 32 mB ram, but I maxed it out when I started learning about this stuff, wh...

Re: Bad idea to switch?

Just as an aside, damentz has been debating, and now decided, that he's dropping 32 bit support as of liquorix 5.2 He gives his reasoning, which is pretty valid, here: https://techpatterns.com/forums/about2734.html We'd talked about this off and on, and he was pretty much decided, but that forum iss...

Re: Bad idea to switch?

Memory: 1.90 GiB used: 861.1 MiB (44.1%) As a general rule, every new generation of software uses more ram than the previous. So when you moved to MX 18 from 16, you moved to a more ram/resource hungry version of the software that runs the system. The symptoms you describe are all almost certainly ...

New inxi support feature: -Sa - show kernel boot parameters

Someone suggested I add the contents of /proc/cmdline to inxi to help with support issues, particularly around graphics drivers, which I thought was a good idea. it basically helps support people skip a step in collecting info about say why a video driver isn't working (e.g., no blacklisting when ru...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

kmathern, yes, the options is -W, and that must be followed by the location. -x -x -x are three other options, combined for -xxxW location Note that data source 2 does not support any form of city/state/country name with spaces (+ is used to pass the space safely to the remote server), no syntax wor...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

No, it's totally unrelated. Each program uses its own data sources and logic, there is no connection. However, the connection in this case may be that that app was using the same datasource, though honestly, it's not that hard to change sources so I don't see why it wouldn't just be updated, so it m...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

Just a side note, because your location is derived from your IP from your ISP, that is never going to be accurate, it has very little to do with where you actually are, just where your IP is located at your ISP. So that's what default uses, it gets your lat, lon, or rather, the lat lon connected with...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

anticap, unfortunately your case exposes a small filter I forgot to add to the location, that's why you see the repeated stuff, I'm slapping my head since it struck me I should add it for all values, not just state/country. You've correctly noticed that the location is not great, it's not great for ...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

that's old inxi. You can tell, because datasource 1, which is what old inxi has, is the only one with heat index. That's the data source that is rumoured to being offline soon. New inxi is in github or pinxi is always new of course, if you update it. distro packaged inxi's will all fail possibly by ...

Re: inxi/pinxi testers! big weather update

I added 1 more api, and if you grab latest inxi or pinxi, it now also shows the api source, which is required to maintain following the attribution requirements for these apis, probably not necessary, but you'll know which is which now. So currently api's 1 through 4 are active, and 3 is default. I'...
