Re: migration - the kernel

It is one and the same kernel. Basically showing the kernel release, 4.14.03-amd64 and kernel version 4.14.13-1~bpo9+1mx17+2 with other stuff in between

This describes the whole line.
kernel name
node name

Re: A question about Live USB Maker

I have got a folder called Live-usb-storage with something like 60.8 GB free space, so I assume that must be the one with write access.

Re: A question about Live USB Maker

D-O tells you in many of his videos he keeps a Live USB thumb drive and sometimes uses it as a full system. He has also done videos while using a Live USB.

Re: migration - the kernel

Not too much wizardry needed to add a kernel using MXPI popular Applications or Test Repo.

Re: A question about Live USB Maker

For the Live USB Storage you do not need to do anything. It is automatic. For Persistence Dolphin Oracle has a very good video. Applies to MX 18 as well.

Re: A question about Live USB Maker

Also in full featured mode a Live-usb-storage folder is created which can hold data in Live mode and can also hold data transferred from an installed system. If you use thunar to examine the live USB you will see most of the USB has free storage.

Re: migration - the kernel

If everything on your computer is working to your satisfaction my advice would be not to upgrade the kernel except for security reasons. There are cases where kernel upgrades will be automatic when you dist-upgrade, and that decision is made by the devs.
What kernel are you using?

Re: LXQt and KDE respins - personal projects

Usually other distro projects have multiple DEs, what was the reason that MX devs decided in using only Xfce? Manpower and also developers preference. Also, on a side note wasn't the original mepis project based on kde, what made them to switch to Xfce? Developer preference and at the time a desire...

A site that is not commercial, not selling anything and referencing MX we do not consider spam. However posting the link here is off topic.
