1. Icon changes for MX Tools are in the works for MX 19. As concerns the MX icon, that can be discussed, but the current one has become universally recognizable. Welcome. There is a wire frame box in the panel. When that turns green click on it and it will show updates and buttons to perform the upgrade. That issue has been resolved and you can resume updates when they are provided. There is also a July snapshot of MX 18.3 with the latest updates.

PPAs , Personal Package Archives, are repositories created by software developers for use with Ubuntu based distros. They are not distributed as part of those distros.
