Re: Stuck with gimp

Which would you recommend
* continue w/ gimp following the video tutorial, or
* do it with pinta following this tutorial https://www.howtoforge.com/editing-images-with-pinta ?
Which would be faster, easier, quicker ?

Stuck with gimp

Hoping this is the right place for a GIMP question.... Today I tried to use GNU Image Manipulation Program 2.82 to change the background color of an image file. Here is the video I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbCnn3Q7PZA I managed to do everything up to 2:22 in the video in gimp. Right...

Re: Kalkulon

Well, I downloaded the .deb. I tried to install it with APT, but it failed. root@mepis1:/home/jon# dpkg -i /home/jon/Downloads/kalkulon/kalkulon_150730-1mx15+1_amd64.deb Selecting previously unselected package kalkulon. dpkg: warning: files list file for package 'xserver-xorg-video-qxl' missing; ass...

Re: Subdirectory jumper

Yes, you can do it with bash. No, I am not a bash wizard, just a dabbler. Here, for example some BASH gems: http://www.catonmat.net/blog/top-ten-one-liners-from-commandlinefu-explained/ If you want to do it with BASH, chances are good somebody already did it. Many functions have been written to exte...

Salvaging URLs from Firefox bookmarks

Last week, when an APT update caused firefox to fail, I removed firefox with APT. Then I installed iceweasel and palemoon. But I did not import my bookmarks from firefox. I did not yet delete my firefox files from my user home account. Nor did I delete iceweasel's files. They are still there. Howeve...

Re: Trying to fix sound in MEPIS 12 KDE

I got stereo sound back for all my installed browsers (iceweasel, opera, and pale moon) by following
these instructions and going into alsamixer to select my Soundblaster sound card and deselect my HDMI card in a BASH shell. YAY, sound!

Re: Trying to fix sound in MEPIS 12 KDE

As much as I appreciate your suggestion, skidoo, I explained on page one that I removed Firefox because I understood APT somehow failed to include library code associated with pulseaudio when I updated libraries using it. Or something like that. At this point, I am not sure if I want to try reinstal...

Re: Trying to fix sound in MEPIS 12 KDE

$ which pulseaudio jon@mepis1:~$ which pavucontrol /usr/bin/pavucontrol From the wiki I gather that I need to create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mepis.list with the line # deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/mx-test/ mx-14 test and then install pulseaudio using APT. Is this correct, Stevo, o...

Re: Trying to fix sound in MEPIS 12 KDE

Codename: wheezy

Code: Select all

jon@mepis1:~$ ps -A | grep audio
  412 ?        00:00:00 hd-audio1

I never heard of pulse audio until Pulse Audio Volume Control mysteriously appeared in my KDE K->Multimedia submenu the morning after doing an APT update.
