Re: things to do after installing MX-18

Maybe it was Stevo since he promoted using archive.org, in any case I would check the checksums/signatures since it's not from an official server (it's anyway good practice even if you get the files from Sourceforge or any other servers)

Re: things to do after installing MX-18

When I install MX I install Dropbox and sync it and run some custom scripts to add my dotfiles and some symlinks from Dropbox. I tried other cloud storage programs like pcloud and insync for Google drive, each of them has a problem, either don't respect or lose the executable bit for files which is ...

Re: MX froze 2x today

I am running MX 17.1 as a VM host on a Win 64-bit guest. I think there's a terminology misunderstanding here, If you run MX on Windows the MX is guest and the Win is host, right? I mean that if you run Windows as a guest in VM might use all your memory that's why you'd need swap. But even if you ru...

Re: MX froze 2x today

Typing "free" in terminal should give you an idea if you have swap or not, you can also check in /etc/fstab if you see a swap entry. If not I highly recommend creating a swap partition. You can use Gparted to repartition the disk, create a Swap partition equal to the amount of RAM (or less if you ha...

Re: MX froze 2x today

Oh, one more thing if you are running VM you might run out of memory. Do you have a swap partition set up?

Re: MX Linux is now #3 at DistroWatch (over past 6 months)

RC1 announcement was just posted on DistroWatch, this will drive the numbers up and the final release is around the corner. The problem is that once you get to the top there's going to be only one direction to go... :p

Re: MX froze 2x today

MX is very stable in my experience, there might be two things that can affect its stability: hardware and software. For hardware check I recommend doing at least a RAM test at the start up to make sure everything looks OK, if the computer has its own test suite (Dell for example come with a diagnost...

Re: Semi-Rolling

I am not sure a word can describe precisely how we do things, for example we've been even less rolling than Debian, when Debian releases a new version it's possible to upgrade by changing the sources, usually when we release a new MX based on a new Debian version we recommend re-installation (althou...
