Re: Firefox - Reinstall & Restore Config & Saved Info

1. Never used : Firefox or Thunderbird => simply copy .mozilla or .thurderbird from your backup. 2 Used : delete .directory-used and replace it with the backup. Regarding thumbs, etc... problem mentioned I used the above method since Mx-16 -> Mx-18 (3 times at least because of a small problem with P...

Re: CPU speed problem

Or you can try my solution in rc.local . At the end add : echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor # echo performance > /sys/devices/system/...

Re: Seamonkey - Video Download Helper?

" I'm told that Video Download Helper is for FireFox only! I prefer Seamonkey as my browser (Unbranded Firefox, from what I've read). Anyone know of an alternative video downloader that will work with Seamonkey? " youtube-dl (via wget) + aria2c (with a bit of tweaking) works well AND fast ...

Re: watch cable tv

Edit 2: I have an Intel/nVidia video combo coupled with an webcam with microphone + an really old tv-tuner based on bt878 so my inxi -F is useless to you and require some system tweaking. I don't really get it what kind of "adapter" will reverse the signals.,. My simple solution would be a...

Re: watch cable tv

Probably you make an almost standard error. 99.9% of HDMI ports on PCs are output only. An " inxi -F " from terminal should help if posted here. If any of the Graphics info match the Audio info such as nVidia/AMD/Intel names in those infos then is an standard HDMI Output. I have an Intel/n...

Re: CD-ROM Speed

Sorry; my bad.

ejectcd and setcd are 2 small packages in Synaptic which need to be installed.

Usually I keep handy an "package list'" from Synaptic in order to reinstall without problems and I forgot they are not default...

Re: Sysvinit Future

i will go with D-O opinion with some clarifications : 1. sysvinit was Proved at least few hundreths million times till now. Yes, it is an old serial system but he does his job very well ... 2. a simple search for " systemd problem " gave me 1.5 mill results ... starting with " Linux: ...

Re: CD-ROM Speed

I had the same problem. You can try, as root, to add at the end of /etc/rc.local the following lines : eject -x 4 /dev/sr0 setcd -x 4 /dev/sr0 Note that my speed is 4 times faster simply because my minimum cd speed is x4. You need to check minimum physical speed for your drive in his manual (at home...

Re: How many of you need a 32 bit distro?

to quote: Even the old Pentium couldn't take more than 4gb ... and add a newer video card on AGP with 512 Mb RAM like Radeon 16xx Pro AGP or something equivalent which to equals 4.5 Gb meaning PAE became neccessary to use all that the old-horse could offer... Edit : As long as major distros keep 32b...

Re: Is This Safe?

i get this glitch few dozens times in many Debian-based distros. It happens only with Synaptic, not with apt-get. As a simple rule of thumb, if Synaptic ask me to remove more than 5 packages, I simply ignore it. Sometimes, if your choice is to remove them anyway, you will discover that possibly many...
