Re: Skype on MX

OK, I will use the new interface on my 64bit machines.
But the machines I most want Skype on are 32bit (eeepc901) - must I convert them to XP ?
Before Microsoft's vandalism I was happily using Skype in European hotel rooms with Linux
on the eeepcs: no longer possible :frown:.

The current skype for linux works just peachy.
Not in my opinion: the user interface is nasty compared with the XP version 7.36 and it will not run in 32-bit MX.

Re: Skype on MX

I have discovered that a usable version (7.36) of Skype still works on XP.
It is much better than any of the working "Skype for Linux" versions.
Tried it successfully in vbox XP: would it work in WINE?

Re: What should I back up?

........ Back up the entire system with mx-snapshot then. That's probably the easiest solution. Copying programs doesn't really work in Linux either (you could copy .debs that you installed from APT cache though, that in /var/cache/apt/archives/) Mx-snapshot is really the easiest and best solution.

Re: Wireless lost after failing during dist upgrade

Why not get a "USB 2.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter"?
They are low-priced and readily obtainable.

Interesting story, Dave.

Success!
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter
Posting with it now

Thanks again, Dave.

P.S. This is an old eeepc901 with defunct internal wifi - rather slow but quite usable with MX.
