Re: Installing latest Nvidia drivers cripples Xorg and apt-get

ddm-mx installs the nvidia.packages requested and all depends and recommends.

Any enabled.repo is not disabled until the install is complete. But if some package isn't a depend or a reccommend, then it won't be installed.

Re: Systemd free MX19?

users work with SysVInit without problems, whether this is a conscious decision or not. It works for them, even if they don't think about it or don't know anything about it.

that's actually the goal...to make it so folks don't need to care about what brings up their OS stack of stuff.

My preference would be no systemd. What software, other than Gnome, actually requires systemd from the upstream source?
Snapd and some badly packaged stuff from third parties where they supply systemd unit service.files but.not sysvinit.

Re: Installing latest Nvidia drivers stifles Xorg and apt-get

Im.going to suggest trying to purge out nvidia, which should return to a default state.

From a console.prompt

Code: Select all

ddm-mx -p nvidia

Should purget the nvidia drivers off...

Stevo and Tim will have to speak towards the depends issues.

Also, are you running 32 bit MX or 64 bit

Re: HELP problems running update

you should be able to reinstall w32codecs with mx-codecs.

w32codecs is not in our repo. mx-codecs pulls it from deb-multimedia.

you could also download and install manually from here: https://www.deb-multimedia.org/pool/non ... 2_i386.deb

Re: Package Installer - LTS NodeJS

First of all, thank you for welcoming me! I bumped into MX Linux and stopped the idea of distro hopping so I would be very sad if got an answer such as "MX is not for development so you better find yourself a new distro". Ooooohh so that is the purpose of the MX Test Repo. Hmm so does that ...

Re: Package Installer - LTS NodeJS

The difference between the MX Stable repo and the MX Test repo is that Test is used as a kind of holding area for new apps or newer versions of apps that are in Stable. Apps in Test generally work just fine, they're just kept segregated from the ones in Stable awaiting more user feedback before bei...

With 17.1 there might also be an expired gpg key to deal with.
good point, although I thought we had that dealt with.

if not, then the easiest thing to do is

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install antix-archive-keyring
sudo apt-get update

Re: No updates available for MX17.1

our repositories, which old all the downloadable software, are hosted on servers all over the world (each server being called a "mirror"). mx-repo-manager will let you change which set of servers (mirrors) you are using. you can manually check for updates by right-clicking the updater icon the syste...
