It looks the problem is fixed .
After recent updates now loading stretch-backports packages works fine with MxPI

If using synaptic package manager with stretch-backports enabled it loads package list fine . You need to enable disable every time to avoid unwanted package updates. The MXPI ...

This <Downloading package info> crash still persist. But if I keep on retry for several attempts it load the package list. It is not consistent how many retry. My observation is that if the package loading progress bar full swipe happens 7 or more times it loads the packages. Anything under it crash...

I checked with synaptic package manager by enabling the stretch-backports in the repository list. ( http://deb.debian.org/debian/ stretch-backports main ) It reloads the package list without error after enable. I created a snapshot iso (distribution to others) after updating the mx-installer to the installed system .
