Re: Magazine high praise!

@chrispop99: You have said almost exactly the same as I was going to say myself! Such high praise from Linux Format should encourage many more people to try MX. It's great to see the MX team's hard work (notably documentation, an Achilles heel for many distros) being recognized in such a public way....

Re: "Mepis Magic in a Lightweight Xfce Distro!" Review of MX

@uncle mark and @lucky9:
Absolutely the same for me - Mepis was the first Linux distro which helped me to finally lay Windows aside at home. But I must also give credit to Knoppix for stimulating an initial interest in Linux, as its live CD was gobsmacking!

Re: 64-bit rules?

Some really old systems (or Atom based netbooks for example) cannot do 64 bit and 64 bit is a bit more wasteful with the memory than 32 bit. Well, it's more 50-50 with the Atom based systems - wikipedia has a useful table of the 32 versus 64-bit capable processors. I'm running 64-bit Linux very suc...

Re: Status

I think I might be the only "active" member here who isn't running either Mepis or MX-14, although I do keep my MX-14 flash drive handy; as was once the case with Mepis, MX-14 has become my favorite choice for live sessions. I still drop in at these forums just about every day, but I gues...

Re: anybody got a netbook with a PowerVR video chip (GMA 360

Does anybody here have a netbook with a GMA 3600 chipset using a PowerVR video chip? I've been giving out MX recommendations on other message boards, and this came up. Does anyone know if MX or antiX will work on this thing? This is not a happy chipset for Linux - see Note: PowerVR-based graphics (...

Re: Love new MX-14

Have just tried MX-14 iso in a VirtualBox vm and it was very smooth and impressive indeed.
A most excellent job and warm congratulations to all concerned!
Also, a very intelligent selection of packages as a starter for the user.

Re: Love new MX-14

Installed SpaceFM. Trying to figure it out. What I miss most is customizing the toolbar, one click for hidden files, sorting, etc. Learn the keyboard. I've used SpaceFm ever since IgnorantGuru first tested it, and it's wonderful once you realize just how much you can customize. "Design mode&qu...
