If you're copying over hidden files, then that may well override the MX defaults. I meant this: 1) create a new user 2) use MX User Manager to copy over existing Firefox and Documents 3) log out and then into the new user Question : does that look like the default MX-17? Welcome!

If you create a new user, then you will get the default desktop. Take a look at MX User Manager for help in copying files over from the old one to the new one.

I guess I just didn't see the confusion: MX Linux uses systemd-shim, which emulates the systemd functions that are required to run the helpers without actually using the init service. This means that SvsVinit remains the default init yet MX Linux can use Debian packages that have systemd dependencie...
