Re: Will MX-16 work with Gnome shell ?

...found the best music player for Linux (Lollypop) never even heard of it before and I must say it is Sweet. I love Lollypop, but the gtk+ version it uses is beyond Debian Jessie and thus, MX. I have Lollypop on quite a few of my other distros that run a newer gtk+ version, like Manjaro, Korora, S...

Re: Will MX-16 work with Gnome shell ?

Will systemd be an issue with running Gnome in MX? Gnome 3 has steadily improved, but for me it's only good because various gnome shell extensions make it usable. I didn't like it until around version 3.18. I'm using Gnome 3.22 right now with Korora 25 and it's pretty good (with the extensions). [AD...

Re: Request for info from Mepis 12 users

This is about using Gparted to copy partitions. I have read/browsed the gparted help stuff, but still unsure.(multiple os on same drive) I've always been a "cloner". The distros installed are (win7(defunct)) & Mepis 12. MX14/15/16. (which I can Snapshot, not an issue) I'd just like to g...

Re: SSD Swapable drive bay

Yesterday I just got myself a simple USB3.0 to SATA3 converter cable. Finally managed to remove the 2.5" HDD from my borked laptop, so I'm going to use the cable to sort out/wipe the HDD partitions using Gparted. I figured that a cable was more versatile for my needs: 1. as long as the device i...

Re: Sound icon missing after login

Did you preserve the /home partition or have a completely fresh install of /home as well? Because the $HOME/.config/volumeicon [I think that's what it's called] file might have been changed in the MATE install and preserving /home would mean those changed settings remain. Open that text file and che...

Re: MX Printer Setup Excellent

I have found just the opposite! Installed MX16 64 bit in place of 32 bit, and cannot get any printers to print at all. I keep getting the message "Unable to ocate printer", even though the systm has found it. Now I am totally at a loss. If yours is a network printer, have you tried in the...

Re: Crypt Setup Error

During an update today, I received an error. It's already gone so I can't show a copy but it was something like: cryptsetup error failed to detect canonical device. Not sure if this is anything important but I thought I'd ask. Thanks. don't worry about it. It has to do with the installer, and the e...

thank you for your help.

Install Virtualbox using the MX Package Installer.

Then follow the instructions in the MX manual on what else you need to do.

Re: Ransomware

The problem probably is that the code was bespoke and possibly not given/available to the customer who commissioned it. I think with this recent attack, you're going to see a lot of customers - particularly those using the software on mission-critical, life/health-affecting or simply long-lifespan p...
