Re: MX-19 Beta 1 Feedback

Just downloaded and put on a removable USB stick. So far early testing is perfect. This hardware has always worked well with Debian, antiX, MEPIS, and MX Linux. inxi -Fxz System: Host: mx1 Kernel: 4.19.0-5-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 8.3.0 Desktop: Xfce 4.14.1 Distro: MX-19beta-1_x64 pati...

Re: Best Distro for an Old Laptop

I had a couple of Dell D600 series laptops in the past. At the time I owned them I was only running 32-bit software and I cannot recall their specs. One of the least capable of the ones I used had only 512 MB RAM. With that particular unit I found excellent results with antiX, but my other systems t...

Couldn't be simpler.
I do the same thing but I usually add bs=4M

Re: MX is really something special

OpenSuSE is actually a good distribution. Like Debian, it offers stable releases, a rolling "Tumbleweed" release ata variety of other alternatives. The SuSE ecosystem is rich, mature, and a reasonable alternative to Debian-based systems. I still prefer MX and antiX for flexible, ready to use systems...

Re: Why XFCE?

Xfce, even dating back to the "original" implementation, has always been fairly simple, modest on resources and sensible. As technology has improved, so has Xfce, though certainly not with any "bleeding edge" features, but also lacking a great number of work stopping errors. I've found Xfce to be si...

Re: Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)

I have used Linux distributions at some point in time to do all of the things you have mentioned, and also for testing, documentation, and helping others. Today I use Linux distributions primarily for reading Webmail, browsing the Internet and occasionally maintenance. Either MX or antiX can handle ...

Re: new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX

Out of all of the distributions that either offer or feature the Xfce desktop environment, I like this one best. (That's natural because it's very similar to the custom Xfce distributions I've been creating from MEPIS or antiX tools for at least a decade; only the artwork and the latest tools differ...

Re: MX-17 Beta 1 Feedback Thread

I was able to grab the ISO image overnight and I hope to have the opportunity to try it out this weekend. I usually have very good success, even with early builds; hope the great track record of the team continues. Meanwhile most of my working hours are spent testing financial services software and ...
