Re: Flash Security Update

...but I see so many complaints from the grumps at the Debian forums about "these gol-dern things a-poppin' up in my face! I hate that in an OS!" I'm a bit leary of adding that. Yea Stevo I hate to be interrupted while falling to my death to. "Please Sir your update has failed, the ground is approa...

Re: Flash Security Update

I ran "run-parts -v /etc/cron.daily" as root in a CLI. The cron jobs were not getting passed an "APT" script that is jamming the works right up. I re-named the adobe update script to a name that would come before the broken APT one. Bingo, the adobe updater script now runs. The results of that scrip...

Re: Flash Security Update

Does the cron job let you know anything when it's running at all? I thought it just did it in the background, like when I see my CPU usage go up, I check what it is, and when I see "find" eating a lot of cycles, I know that cron is running "updatedb". Did you add a command to pop up a terminal in t...

Re: Flash Security Update

Note to Administrators; Another point, unless you are logged on/or logged in you don't see the notice on the front door/index page of the forum. Is this possible to fix this please? Don't see why: the notice is for members. I believe it is adequate as it is as a message for our members. How many me...

Re: Flash Security Update

By the way, horrible security flaws in Flash, with 0-day exploits, have been announced fairly often over the years. It's not like this is going to be the first or last one, so updating Flash should be either a habit, automatic with a cron job, or as noted above, with Chrome. Agree fully Stevo, Beca...

Re: Point of Order.

When I try to thank any post in this thread, I get the message "invalid thank". Why? I see the same problem. I am working on it. This is proving more difficult than I thought. Although permissions are set to allow thanks, this sub-forum is not accepting them. May need to bump this to phpBB help des...

Re: Flash Security Update

I have made it a Global Announcement. It will be at the top of every forum on the Board. I chose not to put it in Site Announcements. Thank you Rich Just had a look at that Rich and it "kind-of" gets lost in the mire mate. What's with not sticking it in plain sight on the front door for all to see ...

Re: Flash Security Update

Thanks kmathern, that's good info on the script , going to add that to my anacron job/cron list now. Such a script should be in any and all OS releases, until flash just goes away. I do think it is valid to have a banner post on the front page of MCF for at least 4 weeks. This is a nasty piece of co...

Re: Flash Security Update

Hey Soundtech, good on you for raising this Adobe Zero-Day Attack issue.
