Re: Love the clock and monitor--WHERE DID IT GO?

Or is Wade asking about conky? Conky has a clock in some versions, and is the monitoring stuff. Maybe it got turned off. Go to the MX button, and click on System (I think, I am at a Windows machine now), find the Conky entry, in that window is a box to turn it on or off. Maybe someone else can give ...

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

caprea,

Let me clarify what your recommend:
1. With synaptic install libelf-dev
2. Do I need to reinstall the nvidia driver? I already have it under the other kernel.
3. With the MX package manager, reinstall the 4.14.12 kernel

Re: Streamlining MX17

If the machine is weak, consider installing Antix-17.
It is lighter in memory consumption.

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

Yesterday I installed a few kernels in antix17. All booted fine except the 4.14 ( I understand the 4.14 is meltdown/spectre patched) which went to a black terminal, I logged in and tried startx, but there was no xserver to log into, was the kind of errors messages I got. So, how do I get the nvidia ...

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

Stevo, Good tip, I think that makes sense, the Ryzen stuff is not a problem for Meltdown, but spectre is still potential, or at least one variant. I am not worried about these, for now these exploits are not yet reported the wild, and exploitation is theoretical and difficult. 4.10 antix kernel is t...

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

"They (antix kernels) are different, I don't know what the MX kernel includes or is based off. antiX kernels are basically vanilla kernels from kernel.org plus 4 or 5 patches." I installed thew stable 4.10 using the MX Package Installer, and as I recall it was the antiX 4.10, so maybe ther...

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

anti,

Will installing bring in the Nvidia driver for the kernel the way the MX installer did?

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

anti,

I updated in MX, and an antix kernel was not visible in the options to install.

Should I boot into the antix partition, and try and install 4.14.12 from there?
Are they different kernels?

What is the difference?

Thanks
