Re: how do i install to dual boot with existing win8.1

The request was for an existing booting double Windows to accommodate a Linux installation. I would prefer to use GRUB also but that was not what was asked for if I read the request correctly. Which is always a possibility.

Re: changing the MX-15 splash photo

Eventually my Neuron will fire up and assimilate new data. Jerry3904 has been consistent and pretty darn gentle. I find that I don't have to use the forum for a lot of things. It has made the MX Linux Forum a nice social activity.

All of my Browsers are set to open where I was when I closed them. Or restarted the system.

Re: Our social media experiment

My daughter keeps me informed (along with my brother) about facebook stuff that might interest me. Twitter is not interesting (to me) unless it makes the evening news.

Re: how do i install to dual boot with existing win8.1

The wiki covers the use of booting from Windows. Basically you need to install GRUB to the /root of the Linux you are installing. Then do a little editing in the Windows bootloader.

Re: KDE actively developed version

You can also use the MX Package Manager to install KDE4-Standard. At the bottom under Window Managers. You will probably want to install some additional packages, K3b etc. to flesh it out if you go this route.

Re: Help with OpenGL drivers

I have to admit that I don't have the proprietary AMD/ATi driver on my main machine. I also don't game of even use that machine much. So I'm learning a lot of new stuff that may come in handy. Thanks to everyone.

Re: Bigger upgrade, is this safe? [solved]

As long as there are no upgrades made with Backports, Testing, etc. you should have no problems. If you do an upgrade with non-default repositories enabled then all bets are off. My upgrading is done whenever there is a notification one is available. All without problems. All repositories are used h...

Re: Help with OpenGL drivers

Usually under System there is an AMD/ATi driver installer. I've only used this method once but seems reliable from other reports. I did have to do a cold restart to complete the installation. I was using an R7 card if I remember correctly. Or===In a Terminal you can su to root and enter sgfxi. You d...
