is there a way to boot to console? (not load X)?

Want to install latest NVidia driver, which tells me I cant install in X.

Is there a simple way to boot without loading it so I can install the driver? (have tried the menu item built into MX but that variant causes my machine to freeze on boot)

Re: google chrome - long microfreezes make it unuseable on mx 19

As a test I am running Chromium on a Xubuntu 18.04 VM on a MX-19 Host. Chromium on this install is lagging and freezing. Here's what is says in the "About Chromium": Version 79.0.3945.79 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 18.04 (64-bit) So, this is a problem with Chromiu...

Re: google chrome - long microfreezes make it unuseable on mx 19

Does Chromium have the same problem? The Chromium in our test repo is known to crash at random very often, just like the Sid version it was backported from, but Swamp Rabbit is rebuilding a patched version that cures it. I've already had the OBS build it for vanilla Debian: https://build.opensuse.o...

No issues here either. One question - yours is installed to a USB device. Care to give us the make, model and USB spec? Sure SDCZ43-128G-Q46 Interface USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s) Maximum Read Speed 150 MB/s So far (couple months) its been great. I have no such problems with firefox, or with any other applicat...

Re: google chrome - long microfreezes make it unuseable on mx 19

This is even happening on some Chromebooks with the last two updates. Hopefully Google fixes this ASAP. Yes, its annoying: Its not like they are under-resourced and dont have access to some of the smartest people in the tech field. Ive been using chrome for 15 years. never thought I would need to u...

google chrome - long microfreezes make it unuseable on mx 19

Anyone else had this issue? I have tried on three separate installs (all to USB device) and each time it keeps on sequentially locking up. The rest of the OS is functional, just Chrome performance is complete garbage. I have tried killing all extensions. It still does it. Using firefox to write this...

Very impressed with this distro (and happy)

I had pretty much given up on ever having a production desktop with Linux on it as a result of lot of bad experiences over the years. MX was a very pleasant surprise for me. Have been using couple months now. So far there really has been no significant annoyance or gotchya. Its good! Here's what I n...
