Re: MX Installer: "Allow for one standard snapshot" [Solved]

I wonder if it's not better to just hide the sliders when they have no effect, it would simplify the user interface. There's no point to have buttons/toggles that don't do anything and it avoids confusion like "I clicked on that and it didn't seem to do anything" if you mean the checkboxe...

Re: MX Installer: "Allow for one standard snapshot" [Solved]

It allows for extra space to be reserved for a snapshot. Say you move the slider too far and you don't have enough space for /home for a snapshot. The box should uncheck. You can tick the box again to move the slider to reserve the correct space for /home. If home already has enough space, or if the...

Re: Happy 10th Year Anniversary--a user thread

I discovered MX Linux in 2018, and had no idea it was a continuation of MEPIS (a name I had not heard about in years). I got curious because with a name like "MX Linux" I figured it was a distro for DJs. Turned out to be a pretty decent distro based on XFCE. Of course there's always AV Lin...

Re: Accidentally deleted chrony, mx-datetime and mx-apps by installing ntp

The MX 21 version of MX Date & Time only supports either ntpd or NTPsec, and should not have a dependency on chrony. The version in MX 23 changed to using chrony for those reasons FullScale4Me mentioned. Unfortunately the chrony and ntpsec-related packages conflict with each other so it is not p...

Re: MX-30

I've heard (unconfirmed) that fires occur at a greater rate with gasoline engines than they do with electric cars. We just seem to hear about the battery fires more often. Newer, I guess. Not where I am. Fires do occur with petrol engines, but they are way easier to deal with than EV fires. Also pe...

Re: MX-30

I'm wondering if I should get an ebike for the nice weather. Lots of those fat tire things around here. Please be very careful with e-somethings (electric cars, e-bikes, and basically anything with a lithium ion battery). We have seen a lot of house fires thanks to those lately. Usually it's protec...

Re: Date/Time issue

I wonder if you need to do a drift adjustment.

Go to the Hardware Clock tab, and under Hardware Clock Tools click on Drift Adjust.

Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?

I don't follow AV Linux that much but here's some food for thought: If you make breaking UI changes like changing the desktop environment, I would suggest doing it in a major release rather than a minor one (eg. 23 to 24, not 23.1 to 23.2). A minor release implies that the UI should be more or less ...

Re: Yes, about all that old Windows 10 hardware.....

I'm not saying that people didn't upgrade. Of course they did. But they weren't forced to upgrade due to security concerns. (Or at very least, due to MANY security concerns.) This meant an old PC with an old OS could be used in enterprise for much longer as long as the hardware and software didn't ...

The electric car will probably be on fire before the MX-31 installation has finished. Generally this is a hardware issue...
