Re: Request of package R version >3.4.3

Hi, I am using MX17. I need to install a package in R (plotrix) that requires R >= 3.5.0. The latest version available in the testrepo is 3.4.3. I would appreciate if version 3.5 could be made available either in the normal or test repos for MX17. Thanks in advance The Debian buster repo has R-3.5.2

Re: One reason that I use Linux

The one thing thats a bit of a nuisance is when you restore on a different machine - it has the wrong UUIDs in fstab for the swap partition - which causes the first boot to hang for quite a long time. Then once its booted, easy enough to fix that fstab entry. have you found a more elegant solution?...

Re: Firefox ESR anyone ?

I like the ESR version because Mozilla seems to make FF worse with every release and every new feature that they add is another potential bug and/or vulnerability. I run without PulseAudio and the Debian firefox-esr package allows me to have sound but the MX FF package is not compiled with the --en...

Re: One reason that I use Linux

One of the reasons that I've used Linux since S.u.S.E 4 (IIRC it was Slackware based, but it was 20+ years ago, and I'm old and forgetful ;) ), has nothing to do with Security/Restarts after every update/FOSS/Cost - it's being able to legally clone my OS onto any (within limits) other box, and ever...

Re: privacy concerning "MX Linux OS"

privacy geeks will tell you there are 3 things that can be used to keep you secure: - What you know ( passwords) - What You have ( physical keys) - What you are ( fingerprint, iris scan, DNA ...) I disagree. I proceed on the basis that everything can be hacked/compromised. If my password is stolen -...

Re: privacy

Before seriously using MX Linux, I did my own security audit by using both MX and antiX in an environment where traffic to/from NICs and serial ports were tapped and logged. I spent quite some time sifting through that to see if there was anything suspicious, in particular the political bookmarks i...

Re: privacy

MXLinux, Firefox ESR, ProtonMail. Electric tape over the little camera on laptop. No self-goals ( Amazon, Google devices etc). Electric tape over fingerprint reader ( not interested in treating myself like a felon!). I can type. All sensitive data on separate encrypted folder and backed up physicall...

Re: "Progress"

Engineering is always about tradeoffs. And huge companies like MS , when faced with the following ( hypothetical) tradeff, make the wrong choice ( from my perspective). lets say there is a software change that will have the following effect: 1. Increase performance by 20% 2. Create problems 0.1% of ...
