Re: update frequency? removing unused programs

I update some time shortly after the notifier turns green, usually right away. I think the longest I allowed it to wait was about 2 hours and that was because I was in the middle of something that I couldn't stop just then. Unlike some responders above, I reboot whenever the update includes a new ke...

Re: What was your first Linux distro?

Started in 2003 with openSuse (or whatever it might have been called back then), just to dabble and experiment. I was so very impressed with the update process; the only thing I had to compare it to was Windows. Dropped Linux for quite a while as I was less than impressed with what it could do (or c...

Re: Ever lost a post because your login timed out!

Another way to preserver what you've typed is to click the "Preview" button every once in a while. This will reset the session timer for you and preserve the content of your work-in-process. Basically, you just have to have an exchange with the forum server once in a while to let it know you're stil...

Nope, you just joined a very large group of MX users!

There was supposed to be a  at the end of that line. I "fursur" didn't intend to make like I was in any way upset with your response.

Re: MX Updater not turning green

And <cough> in the MX Updater Help file available via the ever-so-useful right click. OK - now I feel just a bit less intelligent than I did just ten minutes ago. I did the right-click and saw/read the synaptic help file but glanced right over the MX Updater help file. And, you're right - just RTFM...

Re: MX Updater not turning green

Thanks for the response - appreciate it. Interesting .... I have Linux Mint installed on my wife's computer and the update notifier triggers about 30 or 60 seconds after a reboot - after the system has a chance to settle a bit. I guess I kinda expected a similar behaviour with the MX Updater. But, m...

<SOLVED>MX Updater not turning green

Reading the beta documentation that comes with the MX install, section 3.2.1, indicates that the notifier should turn green when updates are available. It doesn't. However, it will turn green shortly after I open a terminal widow and run sudo apt update It would appear that there is something missin...

Re: Missing firmware warnings during update - Nvidia, nouveau

Hey, thank you for being brave tester  No so brave. I have backups and if things had gone pear-shaped, I would have done a re-install. I have most of my configurations scripted so, for me, it's only about 20 minutes from clean-slate to fully operational. The morale of the story is that one sh...
