Re: [Solved] Smplayer no longer works

Live streaming seems to be a known issue. I will build smtube-18.1.0, but it seems we would need mpv-0.28, too. https://forum.smplayer.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9058&start=30#p17518 Mpv 0.28 is not in Debian yet, but I tried building it against ffmpeg 3.4.1, which should have been good since ...

Re: meltdown and spectre

This is one guy posting on the Alpine Linux developer boards, but it's distressing for older kernels if it's true:

Re: [Resolved] Go from Nvidia to Open Source Nouveau Video Driver

The 4.14 MX kernel inherited a bug from Debian where some drivers would not build if libelf-dev wasn't installed, but I thought we worked around that with a mx-system update. I don't know if that applies to the 384.111 Nvidia drivers, though.

Yet the OP's results are from the MX kernel, not one of antiX's. There's some wires crossed somewhere...

I think the recent intel-microcode update would have changed one of the Spectre results, too. Maybe that hasn't been applied yet?

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

The 4.14-12 MX kernel has a bug inherited from Debian, where its headers don't pull in libelf-dev. We worked around that temporarily by having mx-system pull it in, but that obviously won't be installed in antiX. Some dkms drivers don't rebuild if libelf-dev isn't installed, though I'm not sure if N...

Re: Script to check for Meltdown and/or Spectre vulnerability

Plus 32-bit users really don't need whatever slowdown kpti inflicts on their system, too.

He liked some of the Ubuntu 17.04 releases, I think, but 17.10 versions went backwards for him. Maybe even worse if he finds out if it was a 17.10 test that nuked his Lenovo BIOS back in October...apparently even a Live test could do it.

Re: Script to check for Meltdown and/or Spectre vulnerability

A user on the Debian forums emailed and got a reply from one of the developers of the KPTI patch in the kernel: > Hi, > I'm writing to you because I noticed your involement with the KPTI/KAISER > patches. Across several varieties of linux distributions, users have > noticed that kpti is impossible t...

A new 0.7 featherpad release is coming out soon. Maybe it can fix whatever he didn't like about it. I added an issue to its github about his problem with it.

Re: 4.14.9 Kernel crashes

It's the last one down on the list. MX 4.14kernel. Which really is 4.14.0-12.1-liquorix-amd64 x86_64

Sorry, that's incorrect. They are two different kernels altogether.
