Re: Tropico 5 hasn't ever worked on MX

Lots of older programs require patches to build correctly on our gcc-6 or higher. Debian maintainers add these patches all the time. If you insist on building from raw older source, you will not benefit from their fixes. This is not a systemic issue, as you can see from the success of our packaging ...

Re: MX17 Dell Precision M4800 won't suspend

Can you try any other of the wide variety of kernels we now have available to see if they've fixed that quirk in a newer kernel? This seems to be a professional laptop without an integrated GPU, so if you have an Nvidia GPU, you can check to see if the proprietary Nvidia drivers make any difference....

Re: MX 17 Repository: The Backported Debian Kernel Thread

The "4.17.0-1" kernel in the test repo is now upgraded to a version based on 4.17.2. Since it has the same ABI (-1) as the 4.17.0 version, it will upgrade over that version. The latest 1.1.1 release has landed in the test repo, adapted from the Sid version in deb-multimedia. This backport is built against backports of the latest x264 and x265 from upstream Debian in hopes of improving transcoding performance. Please let us know how it installs and performs if you give i...
