Re: I'm playing whack-a-mole with XFCE bugs - screensaver edition

And to make it worse, I got the wrong culprit. I waited 3 days to report the bug, and that wasn't it. It wasn't Conky. Still not sure where the bug is. Possibly Waterfox. Possibly just the build of XFCE on MX. Not at all certain now. Look, you have to understand that you can't have a real distro unl...

Re: I'm playing whack-a-mole with XFCE bugs - screensaver edition

Nothing forces you to use Xfce. There are many other possibilities in Package Installer and you can just log into the one you like instead. Not much snark in that helpful tidbit, eh? Well, as it turns out, someone is putting a gun in my back and telling me to use XFCE on MX. Same people who ruined ...

Re: I'm playing whack-a-mole with XFCE bugs - screensaver edition

LIke I said, I need a lock screen, and that means screensaver. ALSO, as I mentioned it's not the screensaver having the problem... I can kill the screensaver job and it still happens. This means it's something XFCE or related video driver is doing. It's just grabbing the last image the screensaver m...

I'm playing whack-a-mole with XFCE bugs - screensaver edition

XFCE seemed so rock solid until I started to really use it. When I use Code::Blocks 17.12 (based on wxWidgets 3.x), the screensaver will start randomly popping up while I'm editing. It comes up almost randomly. The screen looks like whatever the previous image for the screensaver *was* with a few wi...

Suggestion: change dircolors from dark blue on black

I modified my .bashrc # fix the colors LS_COLORS=$LS_COLORS:'di=1;36:' ; export LS_COLORS I was just getting sick of not being able to read directory names. Since MX terminal defaults to black background, the default color scheme really doesn't work. Since you're tweaking everything, I'd like to sug...

Re: Desktop Settings - can't set background on 2nd external monitor

The answer is that it was a weird variant on what people are pointing out. The settings directory selector did indeed change to xfce defaults on the right monitor, however selecting "backgrounds" from the dropdown list showed no backgrounds. If I explicitly select /usr/share/backgrounds, then I see ...

[Solved] Desktop Settings - can't set background on 2nd external monitor

I'm on MX18 latest, Lenovo W530 laptop. This is a weird one. If you right click on the desktop, open desktop settings, select background tab, the dialog shows the various wallpaper background options, but only for the left external monitor. This laptop has three potential screens, the main screen (c...

Thanks. That was easy.

Any way to change the subject to indicate [Solved]?

[Solved] Wicd says connected, but Networkmanager applet says not connected

I'm on latest MX 18 on Lenovo W530 laptop. On my panel, I have both the Networkmanager applet and Wicd. Network manager 1.4.4 applet says nothing is connected, and that the Wifi device is not ready. I'm assuming this is because Wicd is using it, but maybe not. Wicd connects fine and is controlling b...

What emits signals for monitor disconnect?

Not really an XFCE forum, but I thought I'd ask here. I'm trying to control XFCE freaking out every time a monitor temporarily disconnects. I want to block those XEvents, but I have spent considerable time trying to track down exactly what is responsible for this: XFCE, Xlib, some hardware monitorin...
