Re: I bricked my system... I think

Looks like you've overwritten your boot loader somewhere along the line, a re install will be the easiest & quickest way to get up & running again.

Chromebooks

Has anyone had experience of putting MX or AntiX onto an Intel based chromebook? I've just ordered a pre used one, to see how it would work out, but any actual experiences would be appreciated. It has an eMMC internal drive. This is the one I'm getting - http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-product...

If I remember right, the version number stays with the one you originally installed, when you update.

Getting closer - beta3 just been released. :)

P.S. Others distros have seen some problems when people have tried to dist upgrade from Stretch to Buster, it isn't advisable. ;)

Re: What Linux Needs To Do To Reach The Masses.

Mass appeal?

Like pulseaudio & systemd, or maybe IBM/RedHat.

Seems to me 'we' lose out, things get changed to suit businesses that like to charge money for service contracts.

Luckily there are still the BSDs to fall back upon, when it all goes pear shaped.....

Re: Best Distro for an Old Laptop

I'm presently running MX on a dual 1GHz/2GB ram notebook & it's fine for normal stuff, a little bit slow starting up, loading large programs, & web browsing, but perfectly usable.

Edit: I did remaster it, it took about 40mins, if I remember.
