For those not interested in reading a manual, just right click on the panel, choose "Panel Preferences" where you can move "Items" around at will.

Hi orto, it's probably worth mentioning that you will need two USB flash drives to do this. One to boot the Live install media, and the second to be the full installation target device.

ThinkPad T43, which is probably over twenty years old. Web browsing is so slow that I won't use this laptop for anything other than reading forums. It sits on the coffee table next to the sofa and I'm using it now for this post.

That is correct, except you must change the /destination/path/ to the actual path to your USB device.
The method Stuart_M suggests may be easier to understand.

So far I've tried 3 different Logitech and one no name USB camera, as well as the cameras built in to several different ThinkPad laptops. All have worked just fine with Linux.

Seems that would be a good move. What tool did you use to write the iso to the USB? If it was just a matter of copying the file to USB, then that is why it won't boot.
