Re: Observations of Workspace Switcher and Window Buttons

The default is to open hyperlinks within an existing instance of firefox. That is the behavior I normally want, so I don't want to change that. However, what would be nice is that if Firefox is not open in the current work space then the hyperlink would open a new instance of Firefox in that work s...

Re: The exFAT file system in Linux & beyond

To format, you will need to use mkfs.exfat in terminal. Novices (like me) may need more information to apply that command. Here is what worked for me. I started with a USB stick that had a bootable full Linux OS on it, so it was not a data stick and was formatted ext4. 1. Using USB Stick Formatter ...

Re: Mac won't boot live MX ... Waiting for /dev to be fully populated

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I no longer have that MacBook, which is now over 1800 mi away. My daughter retook possession so that she could have an OS X backup computer in case her newer one bit the bullet. I only had a brief time to play with that computer. My experience with the MX boot op...

Re: MX 17 Repository: The Ice Thread

Thanks! I just downloaded it and tried it out. It works great except that the selections to apply ICE to Chromium and Vivaldi are grayed out. I wonder if that can be fixed at the MX Repository end? I fixed my ICE app by following this YouTube video. In brief, edit as root the "Ice" (Python script) f...

Mac won't boot live MX ... Waiting for /dev to be fully populated

Anyone know how to get an old MacBook Pro 4.1 (early 2008) to run MX from a persistent live USB stick? Start up freezes at: [....] Waiting for /dev to be fully populated..._ The only thing plugged into the laptop is the MX USB stick. MX boots fine from this stick on my Dell desktop(s). This laptop h...

MX 17 Repository: The Ice Thread

There was some interest here in making ICE available in the MX 17 Repository. Is that request alive or dead? Thanks.

Ice manages site specific browsers (SSBs). Ice application info.

Re: Total beginner looking for LiveCD instructions

According to google, one must hold down 'Alt' and 'SysRq' keys while typing REISUB or REISUO (I assume in capital letters which would also require either 'Caps Lock' or holding down 'Shift'). Yes, although typically written in capital letters, REISUB is typed in lower case. No caps lock or shift ke...

Re: Window buttons drag and drop

I initially gave Linux Mint a try ... [snip] ... the taskbar buttons couldn't be reordered via drag and drop. This was a deal breaker for me For Mint Xfce drag & drop of items in Window Buttons works the same way as MX, that is you have set it in the panel preferences. Also Mint Mate permits drag &...
