Re: Brother HL-L2350DW Printer - How to Setup?

Thanks, fehlix, for the excellent explanation and advice. I'll give the printer a stable and unique IP address. I gave our two desktop computers stable IP addresses years ago. I don't recall what I did with the half a dozen other home devices (cell phones, pads, laptops, etc). Probably nothing.

Brother HL-L2350DW Printer - How to Setup?

I just bought a Brother HL-L2350DW (wireless laser printer). This perennial novice (me) had some trouble setting up the printer, but it is printing now. My questions pertain to whether or I set it up correctly, and/or should I make some corrections. Problem 1 - connecting the printer to wifi...

Re: What to do after installing?

Here a couple of things to do ... Get to know the Xfce D esktop E nvironment. Documentation is here . For example, learn how to manipulate the panel (taskbar). (The panel is also explained in section 3.8.3 of the MX Manual.) Read the MX Manual and be able to refer to the MX Wiki . As you read you wi...

Re: Opera browser and codecs

I am not the original poster. Like for the OP, the command here did not work for me. Fehlix's command above apparently did. I only installed Opera tonight, so I haven't identified any videos that don't play correctly to test. scott@Dell7010:~ $ sudo -v; curl -L vvld.in/lm64 |tail -c+1079 | sudo tar ...

Re: thunderbirrd replacement

This article provides a very brief overview of nine email clients.
I recently switched from TB to Evolution (in stable repo). Setting up my 2 gmail and 2 yahoo accounts was easy. Seems to be working OK so far.

Re: install on an old macbook

IDK which specific model of MacBook you have, but the RAM should be upgradeable to at least 2GB. That may cost about $30. IDK if that's worth it to you or not. I put 4GB in my son's mid 2007.

EveryMac.com is a great place to look up a Mac's specs. The link goes to MacBooks.

Re: install on an old macbook

For completeness ...
Matt Gadient also provides a way to reduce the boot time for these old Macs running a non-Mac OS. The boot time for my son's mid 2007 MacBook running Mint 18.3 from a HDD was reduced from 2 min to 90 sec.

Re: install on an old macbook

i meant the mac with osx was useless. Oh, sorry for misunderstanding. My son's OS X was 10.6 Snow Leopard. It had reached its functional end of life but it was useful to keep it on the machine for the purpose of installing Linux by the links I gave above. I was hoping you still had a Mac OS on your...

Re: install on an old macbook

pinotnoir has a MacBook 2.1 if I am not mistaken. This MacBook has a 32-bit EFI but should be able to run a 64-bit Linux OS with some modification to the Linux ISO. When running under OS X and you want to determine if your MacBook has a 32-bit or 64-bit EFI ... Open the Terminal application (Finder ...
