Re: Basic Newbie Question About Creating A Persistence USB

Yeah, I guess it wasn't immediately obvious to me that choosing no particular option would still create a live USB. But that may or may not be a common confusion; after all, they're check-boxes, not radio buttons, and the "Next" button is clearly clickable.

Thanks again!

Re: Basic Newbie Question About Creating A Persistence USB

What a fool; I didn't realize that you could select NONE of the options (not dd, not any of the clone options). I guess I was thinking of it like radio buttons? Still dealing with an annoying thing where none of the USB 3 ports on my ThinkPad (or dock) will recognize it, but it's working with USB 2,...

Re: Basic Newbie Question About Creating A Persistence USB

So I'm still confused about how to make a writeable live usb system. I tried the dd option in the mx-live-usb-maker GUI front-end, but that (I now realize) creates a read-only live USB. Which option creates a live system? I don't want to clone an existing live system, right? I don't have one yet, un...

Re: Basic Newbie Question About Creating A Persistence USB

Okay, cool. I'll try it with a writeable method tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip, hopefully that was the only foolish thing I was missing!

[SOLVED] Basic Newbie Question About Creating A Persistence USB

Hi! I'm trying to make a live USB with persistence using the MX Tools. I got a little confused by the Dolphin Oracle video -- probably my fault, having trouble translating between making one in a VM and on "bare metal". Here's what I do. I'm sure there's something really basic and foolish I'm missin...

Re: Wayland

I got it working with gdm3, but then it would regularly hang for seconds at a time.

No biggie, xfce (especially the way MX-17 implements it!) is pretty great too.

Re: [Social Network] Mastodon

I'm just starting to get into Mastodon... the Linux Rocks community seems to be where we would go if we want to hang with other enthusiasts and represent MX.

Re: Terminal Emulator Choices

If terminology isn't in the test repo, it will be shortly. I didn't check the test repo. Haven't played around with changing sources yet, but I might just now. Thanks for the prod! You don't have to change sources manually or via Synaptic. OPen MX Package Installer ==> Full App Catalog tab, and cho...

Terminal Emulator Choices

What terminal do y'all use? I'm finding the default XFCE Terminal is surprisingly great, but I'm also eyeing Terminator. It's a little more similar to Terminology, which I used to use on Bodhi Linux. (Side note which should probably be its own topic: is there a way to get Terminology on MX? Or can w...
