Re: firewall

So what is the purpose of the firewall then?

If my modem has a firewall already, do I need another one enabled in my OS?

Re: Is it just me?

I think it may be that as Debian is the basis for many distros including MX and Antix, they feel that general questions ought to be directed to the individual distro's forums rather than themselves. Also the main answerers in some forums - not here! - tend to frown on newbies, a fact I've noticed ab...

Re: Amateur Radio JS8Call

Thanks Earl! I've been warned to be careful about installing anything not in the Repository as it might create conflicts elsewhere. I'll give it a try. Which version of MX are you running, please? I need to upgrade to 18.1, or perhaps 19, I suppose ... I may test the newer MX on my other PC later t...

It's the same with zippers on jeans. Personally I don't mind either way around.
You'd look a bit silly wearing jeans with the zipper at the back!

Re: One of those days...

But think of the male dilemma, the button and the hole would be the other way around! It's of interest (maybe) why ladies clothes have the buttons and button holes reversed. It goes back to the olden days when a lady was dressed by her maids rather than by her own hands. The buttons were placed that...

Meanwhle, I always wondered if one day any Linux guy(s) get(s) permission and make Rufus' Linux version.

There is no need to always quote the full text of the previous reply, it just takes up unnecessary space and server bandwidth.

Re: Please recommend a Rufus alternative for Linux that ACTUALLY works like Rufus

If you guys recall, I had a lot of problems with a Sandisk USB, where the Ubuntu based tools wrote ISO but the Debian based ones like MX wouldn't. Eventually I gave the stick away, with a recent version of MX on it, to a Windows diehard who was comp-laining of slow speeds with Win 10 on his PC!

Re: Kali Linux

No disrespect intended to Sparky but it's strange to my way of thinking, that he's happy to use Linux instead of Windows, and knows about MX and Debian but doesn't realise how Linux started out, as an alternative system designed by hackers who wanted to create something different to run-of-the-mill ...
