Re: Survival of the Richest

This is a very well written article on by a professor & writer, on an experience he had after being summoned by some of the wealthiest people in the world to give a presentation: https://medium.com/s/futurehuman/survival-of-the-richest-9ef6cddd0cc1 A bit of an eye opener really... [edit:] I s...

Re: Chrome feeling SLOW? New update designed to stop hackers stealing your personal information will reduce performance,

I am running 67.0.3396.99. I do not detect any difference in speed from previous versions. Perhaps your SSD equipped PC with 16GB of ram makes a difference compared to the OP's machine? Personally I am loath to touch anything bearing Google's name. Seems the EC agree with me concerning their busine...

Re: newbie help with software install

Hopefully one day Eset or another antivirus will be in the repository so I can install it with Synaptic. The command line is not a viable installation option for me. Just install ClamTK it's GUI for ClamAV available via MXPI / Synaptic. I have ClamTK already. I was looking for something better. Hav...

Re: Can't update

I find that typing

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
in a terminal is the easiest method.

Full upgrade [SOLVED]

Just as a general question, with updates on MX 17, I always do the full upgrade which I guess is equivalent to the terminal command 'sudo apt upgrade'. No problem but why would it be recommended in this Debian based distro when it's definitely not recommended in Mint which uses Ubuntu? They claim it...

Re: newbie help with software install

More likely the OP is a MS Windows power user who doesn't understand that antivirus is not any use in any Linux. His/her claim to have been a Cinnamon Mint user does not hold water either, there have been numerous comments by Mint's experts and gurus about Linux not needing antivirus on their forums.

Re: Just replaced other distro with MX.

I only use Waterfox and Ublock Origin is already running in it. That set up is rock steady on my other older Dell laptop. Good deal. Still, look at the MSVP Hosts file filter in uBlock, or just install it directly. It will make a biiig difference. Perhaps, but it entirely depends on your browsing h...

Re: Just replaced other distro with MX.

Now I've got to re=install it. it seems to go completely haywire when I use Facebook. with me losing control of mouse, or even able to click on stop. I wonder if you would just add another user and verify the system behaviour logged as the new user. If ok, just reset the first user. Sorry guys, re-...
