Re: No popups in VLC

VLC didn't ask me to allow metadata access on first run, which is a privacy risk. Oops, that might be an oversight when having set up the defaults for VLC. We certainly need to fix this point when preparing the defaults for VLC. You can fix it this way: Close VLC and run from terminal command line:...

Re: MokListRT: Out of Resources

I can find no reference to secure boot in the bios Also the previous distro on this laptop was installed and running in UEFI Hmm, looks like this firmware can only boot in UEFI through selecting the grubx64.efi directly (as described in the link you provided). So after Pressing F12 to see the boot ...

I am trying to install MX 18.2 on my laptop but when I try to boot the LiveUSB in UEFI mode MokListRT: Out of Resources is displayed at the top of the screen along with color pixels.
Please disable secure boot mode.

from=usb persist_root tz=Asia/Kolkata quiet
That's it, you always reset tz=Asia/Kolkata when booting.
To fix: Press F3 to select another timezone and press F8 and select save.
The selection is sticky so nex time it will be changed to whether you have selected.

Re: Comments on MX-18.2 MX-Tools > Live Usb Maker > Clone running live system

1. I was surprised that I needed to pre-format the prospective LiveUSB with two partitions, one large ext4 partition for MX with boot flag set, and one small 50 Mb partitioned Fat16(!) for uefi with esp flag set. An unnecessary surprise for a novice to contend-with, IMO. That's rather unusual for M...

Re: Password fun - not

Why is it so complicated ... I'm so sorry, you feel uncomfortable. :alien: Just change both (user and root's) password from the CLI like this. Open Terminal (logged in as normal user please not as root user.) and run to change your user password passwd and to change root's password sudo passwd The ...

Re: what is best os version & kernel to use with Dell D830 laptop

Type: Portable System: Dell product: Latitude D830 v: N/A serial: <filter> This system might suffer from the "S-Video" kernel bug. I would probably try to use this kernel parameter "video=SVIDEO-1:d" , to disable the S-Video port. Alternatively use kernel 4.9. You can just add the kernel paramter v...

Re: Can't Change Timezone

I can no longer change the timezone on MX Linux-18. This is a system running from a USB drive. I'm changing time-zone from command line this way, works also in LiveUSB: Note: After changing timezone Conky displayed time changes immediately, whereas the orage-clock (within the panel) need to be "ref...

Why do most distros use grub?
One reason might be GRUB does support UEFI and legacy booting OOTB.
