Interdasting... thunar 1.6.11 in mint 18.3 does not have the "odd behavior" on my end either... so you're right, maybe it's not a gtk2 limitation... I'll update here if I can figure it out

I think I see what you mean and as far as I can tell it's a qt vs gtk thing but that doesn't follow with xubuntu 18.10 behaving different. I'll have to boot that and see what's up... edit actually it's probably a gtk2 thing which would explain why xubuntu 18.10 doesn't have this issue in thunar sinc...
