In the mean time I do have one question if you happen to know, live MX has entry in boot menu: "Virtual Box Video" If he chooses this menu entry he gets screen resolution that is OK. You can try to fix this by adding a custom modeline, instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr#Adding_undetected_resolutions And then add the custom mode to the X.org configuration file, as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr#Permanently_adding_undetecte...

It's easier than I thought. I tried to enter the root password and it works. Thank you fehlix! There is even easier way to go, at least that's what I do. Those gave me a maximum of 2560x1440, but here I must do with a lot less. While I will not be able to help you, beginner myself, I think I know what will they ask you next. To post some info. In the terminal type 'xrandr' and post output here (copy/paste) encapsulated with code tags for proper form...
