Re: Uploading Problem in MX through browser

The 4.15 kernel's drivers are going to be newer than those. The kernel developers take Realtek-provided drivers and improve them if necessary when they add them to the source. In that case, I would try connecting via a USB wifi adapter. That would isolate the ethernet stack as a potential problem.

Re: Uploading Problem in MX through browser

This page has the latest RealTech drivers, including for Linux up to kernal 4.7. The version numbers don't seem to comport with this though:

Code: Select all

Realtek RTL8101/2/6E PCI Express Fast/Gigabit Ethernet driver: r8169

So I'm not sure what that means.

Re: Wireless printer issues

I think I may need to specify the ip address of the printer but I have no idea how to find this. I would think you could spec a fixed IP right from the printer's panel. Then the router will pick it up as such automatically. You can pick any IP within range, as long as it's not already in use. Here,...

Re: Bitwarden - open source alternative to LastPass and possibly Keepass

I haven't done it, but you can run your own bitwarden server, which I think would qualify as non-cloud. But I think a keepass derivative would be more straightforward for strict local use.

It should go back to reporting available updates if you disable Auto-update.
Thanks again. This seems to be working.

On the original keyboard is (better: was) a key combination to Switch WLAN on or off.
Regrettably this keyboard is broken and now I use a wireless keyboard without this function.
Have you checked to see if Scroll Lock on the USB keyboard simulates the Fn key?

Re: Shutdown/Reboot doesn't; goes to login screen

Looks like I found it. I replaced the xfce4 folder in .config with the one in the new account. I also deleted the .compton folder, but I think the other was the key. It's booting down correctly now. I just have to put back some fine touches to the account.

Re: Shutdown/Reboot doesn't; goes to login screen

Duh. Don't mind me. I already had used that setting (see previous post), but forgot about it. Too much on my mind. The problem I had was that I had renamed lightdm.conf just previous, and checking that setting created a new lightdm.conf with only one line, speccing autologin. MX booted fine without ...
