Thanks much. Some really good information there. I've installed nocache and will see what it does.
It's actually worse with nocache. I've got a 4gb job that's been stalled at 7 seconds in for over a minute now. Going to uninstall.

Re: In Thunar, "Unmount" before "Eject" USB drives?

I also had one machine that had massive boot times - in the order of 10-15 minutes - with MX. Good grief... it's not that bad  Yes, for quite a while I thought it simply wasn't booting, and I kept trying. Then I just let the machine alone, and as I was typing a help request here, noticed tha...

See this thread . Thanks much. Some really good information there. I've installed nocache and will see what it does. I also had one machine that had massive boot times - in the order of 10-15 minutes - with MX. It was an HP x2 Split, with detachable keyboard base. I suppose it was some weird hardwa...

Re: Suddenly, RAM usage much better

I hadn't thought of that. They are on independent development schedules, but maybe chromium incremented and both the browsers picked up on it around the same time. Thanks.

Re: In Thunar, "Unmount" before "Eject" USB drives?

Thank you, Dolphin. That was very clear. That's what I thought about unmounting/ejecting, but I wondered if I was doing something wrong and harming the usb sticks, after thinking about the hang problem. I see, about the buffering. But isn't something out of wack when copy jobs are taking far longer ...

In Thunar, "Unmount" before "Eject" USB drives?

I'm not sure what procedure is here. Do I simply unmount a USB drive - which is what I've been doing - or do I unmount and then eject? Or can I simply eject? I have another problem as well. I have a few usb drives that I sync with a couple of folders on disk. A typical job might be 500MB per usb sti...

Suddenly, RAM usage much better

A few days ago I noticed RAM usage was dramatically improved. I run 6GB of DDR2, and with two browsers going, after a while I'll be pushing 5GB in use. I have learned to watch it and to cycle Vivaldi when it gets that high, because Vivaldi will start misbehaving at that point. But with the advent of...

Re: Recommendations: Helping older eyes

One of the biggest problems I had was scrollbars being too thin. I was able to tweak the graybird theme to widen them, and also found some CSS scrollbar code that I apply to web pages via the Stylus extension in Vivaldi.

BTW, GSmartControl is up to v. 1.16 now (not in our repo), and there are very significant improvements, including the ability to test drives on USB connections.

It's a command for terminal not an entry in menu. Start it with "sudo clonezilla" in terminal
Wow, that is a thing of great beauty. :) Thanks!
