Re: Need to adjust Conky autostart delay

Thanks guys. Excellent! I probably used the Conky Manager to set the delay. I just used it to change it to 10s, and then checked the conky-startup.sh script and the change was reflected there. So I'm sure this is going to work.

Thanks again. Much appreciated!

[Solved] Need to adjust Conky autostart delay

I'm sure at some point I lengthened the delay before Conky opens at boot up. Now I'd like to shorten that delay, but I don't recall how I set it. Is there any obvious way to go about this? In the Sessions and StartUp applet, there is no time parameter in the Conky start command at this point.

Thanks!

Re: Bible software very outdated

Have you seen theWord? It needs WINE, but is very powerful, free, and has a lot of resources. There are a couple of threads here on it. You can find it at www.theword.net.

FI: For my the better way, and easy way
I don't remember what I did back then, but it's been working fine ever since. I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning, so it probably was one of those that caused the problem.

Thanks,

Re: New user says thank you MX-18

I think you can clone the running system, but I didn't try that nor I think is recommended, what I meant is installing clonezilla app on a persistency-enabled (or remastered) MX Live USB and boot from that. Ah, I see. I misunderstood. Yes, that is an option, and it will actually boot faster than a ...

Re: New user says thank you MX-18

for system backups I manually boot to Clonezilla and clone the entire disk. You can also install clonezilla app on MX and run it form it, no need for running a unfamiliar distro just for that. Conezilla has some extra stuff I think if you use servers and netimages but for cloning a disk the program...

Re: New user says thank you MX-18

Truly a great distro. I do break things on occasion, though, and I've learned the usefulness of taking periodic system backups, plus daily user file backups. This way I can be back up and running in under an hour. There are tools under MX Tools on the Menu, but for system backups I manually boot to ...

Could you try the Appimage from clipgrab.org to see if it has the same problem?
Just gave the appimage, 3.8.2, a try. Just as slow as the repo's 3.7.2. Then I trotted out yt-dl, and it tore through the download in no time.

Seems to be a longstanding problem, at least for some.

Afraid the glacial speed was not an anomaly. Happened again, two attempts. Then used youtube-dl and it took a few seconds to complete.

I'll try to give that a try tomorrow.
