Re: sysvinit alternative to systemd

I don't have my MX machine in front of me at the moment, but I'm not sure MX implements the service command for managing init scripts for services. In sysV-style init, everything is just a shell script, so systemctl start trunk-recorder.service is more like /etc/init.d/trunk-recorder start under the...

Re: MX-21 RC1 feedback (Xfce)

Is it normal for PulseAudio to take a nap when the screen is locked? In a fresh install of MX21RC1 Xfce, upon unlocking the screen, xfce4-mixer shows as muted with a message that it can't contact the PulseAudio server. Click on the systray icon after a few seconds and it comes right back to normal. ...

Re: MX-21 RC1 feedback (Xfce)

I installed B2 and then did an update, not realizing that RC1 was out. If that's at all the same as RC1, I was able to confirm that Thunar SMB is indeed functional, at least to our Synology NAS (using smb://user@host/share syntax). It prompts for workgroup and password , then connects. Like Thunar h...

Re: Does anyone really use XFCE panel in vertical or deskbar mode?

I normally do horizontal with auto-hide, but when I wanted an MX VM on this Mac to do actual work from, I appreciated that the MX stock vertical panel didn't conflict with the Mac's Dock or hot corners by default. So I kept it vertical this time.

NetworkManager weirdness with sysvinit?

I first noticed this last week. I was in my usual awesome session and went to connect to the work VPN with NetworkManager as always and got a "You are not authorized to configure networking." error from NetworkManager. I tried again in Xfce, without rebooting, and it worked. This morning, ...

Re: Kronos stays on "Loading the libraries.." screen under MXLinux 19

We use Kronos here, and I have had no trouble using Debian machines with Chromium with Flash with it. I have to allow Flash every time I login to submit a timesheet, but that is the only issue.

Re: MX-19 adblock

That application pulls files with lists of known ad servers from the sites you check and compiles them all together (into your /etc/hosts file) to route all connections to the ad servers listed in those files to localhost, effectively blocking them. Not 100% effective, but a great start.

Re: calamares plans for debian 11

As long as I can achieve LUKS+LVM with XFS root filesystem easily enough, I'll be happy.

Re: How many of you need a 32 bit distro?

I have one machine left stuck on 32-bit, it's a MacBookPro 1,1 from 2006. When the magic smoke finally leaves it, I won't need 32-bit Linux anymore. ;) (I think I have 32-bit MX on my son's netbook, but that was personal preference and not a requirement. I will probably reinstall it with 64-bit MX 1...
