Re: How to silent boot(solved)

There's also the method of using plymouth during boot to see some animated graphics instead of text. I took a look at plymouth wikipage: https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/add-plymouth-mx-linux Question: 1) If boot freezes, does the screen switch to text mode? 2) During boot, is there a key to switch ...

Re: Keeps failing to connect to wifi

I hope you get this solved. Its frustrating, I had the same problem when I installed MX. Because my /home partition (separate from system partition) has been used by other distros. If you have not tried yet, does wifi work with MX live CD or in a new user setting? If it does, the problem is in your ...

Re: Formatting USB drive

colin_b: The Gparted method is really obscure, I would never have figured it out without being pointed in the right direction. It would be really useful if formatting a USB stick could be done via a simple MX tool which requires only a few mouse clicks to get things sorted. Linux has those "obscure"...

Re: Convince me to install MX over Ubuntu

When changing from one distro to another, keep the previous one. If anything happens, you can always boot and fix. Best solution if /home is in a separate partition, accessed by both distros. In this way, you always have a workable system. Ketulla on aina toinen takaovi. :)

Re: Old Unix Videos

Thanks for the link. This was one of the reasons why I changed to Linux in 1996. The software was coded into small modules, which are easy to fix/update at anytime ( compared to Window's monolithic codes) was/is an inspiring concept. And UNIX/Linux did it.

Select "Advanced options for MX 17 Horizont". It also gives different kernel options (4.14 and 4.13) and systemd.

Re: laptop wont boot - again

When I said grub, its about the kernel. Last time I managed still to login with 4.13 by using systemd. Changed to antix-4.9-64bit and worked fine. In last update (6 June) something changed.

EDIT
After several boots with different options, I managed to fix the problem. [Solved]

Re: laptop wont boot - again

Last update did something to the grub and all options freeze the screen. I managed to solve last time this problem by changing the kernel to antix-4.9-64bit, but now nothing works. https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=44502 I am blaming grub because the first boot after the update, the sc...

Re: MX-Linux at #8

In two weeks MX Linux will be #7..... soon becomes among the 5 top distros. For the users its inspiring, but for devs there will be a pressure/stress to maintain the expected quality. I experienced this in Arch Linux when suddenly moved from #23 to #11. They managed when users come forward to help. ...
