Re: MX Package Installer and Debian 4.9.0-7-amd64 kernel

You both deciphered my gibberish ;) I've just noticed that I described the problem, but the wrong symptom. The shared folder access was due to me updating to the latest firejail... I hadn't deleted the link to Virtualbox in /usr/local/bin/ . The symptom was no access to VMs, which you've now fixed f...

MX Package Installer and Debian 4.9.0-7-amd64 kernel

Just for information: From memory, other kernels installed via MXPI, also setup VirtualBox drivers etc - I just installed the aforementioned kernel using MXPI, and needed to set up VirtualBox, as no access to shared folders on host. It's not a problem, as it's just a matter of typing sudo /sbin/vbox...

A per-application Firewall

I actually became less enthusiastic about this after typing it all out, but I'll post it anyway ;) Many Distros have their own tools that make them stand out from the rest... MX has many such tools, Mint had it's Update Manager and Driver Manager etc, Manjaro has... But one program that no Distro ha...

I agree Chris, especially the one that claims to be the 4th most popular one, which rhymes with tint.
TBF, I think a lot of that is down to Ubuntu... their first LTS releases always seem to need the point update to settle down - maybe 18.04.1 will sort a lot of the bugs out.

Re: Just replaced other distro with Mint.

I switched from Mint to LMDE, as I didn't like the Ubuntu base. Always seemed to use more memory than needed, and seemed tardy with certain security updates. I stayed with LMDE through to LMDE2, but some updates started to get neglected. I finally gave up on waiting for LMDE3 last year... been much ...

Just an observation...

...and just MHO. There's a few reasons that MX Linux is becoming more popular, some I've mentioned in previous threads here. Today, I realised another reason that might have gone unnoticed... The majority of threads in this forum each day aren't asking how to fix something, they're package requests ...

Re: NTFS Drive

I can't confirm this works, as I've no Windows machines, but typing

Code: Select all

sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda6
should then allow you to mount the partition. It's usually down to Windows "Fast Start" feature, which you'll need to disable to prevent it happening again.

But wait for someone with Windows to confirm this

Re: A thought on Timeshift

If you've been using Timeshift for so long, can you provide me with some helpful info. on how to get rid of old Timeshift folders? I have a 128GB USB 3.0 drive on which I have an installed Timeshift (saved data, not the app) folder which refuses to let me remove it. Of course I've tried access as r...
