howabout: regardless of subforum, encourage self-selected use of a designated topic icon to serve as a signal
Which would be great for users experienced enough to know which was the correct icon to select... I bet a few novices would select a totally unrelated icon ;)

Re: Can I use Timeshift on the same external drive rom multiple camputers?

Timeshift backs-up to a timeshift directory on a partition, so you'll need separate partitions for each PC. Then just prefix the comments field on the backup to identify each backup... say, "LT1 - updated firefox to 67.4" etc. I've used Timeshift for years, and do it another way... I use a single pa...

Re: youtube-dl error: What's wrong?

Happens often when Google messes with video/audio code on youtube...

Try

Code: Select all

sudo youtube-dl -U
to get the very latest version first, then retry (assuming you've not done this already)

Re: Important alerts ... email distribution

Or... off the top of my head (which will probably mean I've not thought it through) Couldn't you set a boolean flag in the main repo (maybe just read it from a text file), say ok-to-upgrade - then the Update Notifier checks the flag before any upgrades are even offered... then display a message etc....

TP-Link AC600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi USB Adapter (Archer T2U)

For anyone wanting a cheap USB Wifi adapter... The above USB Wifi used to be a bugger to get working on Linux, and if you did get it working (compiling various modules until you found one that worked), you didn't get reliable (or at all) 802.11ac This now works fine on MX Linux 18, but only with Ker...

Re: Thanks Stevo

Although the sentiment is admirable, and I agree that Stevo's nick pops up all over the place ;) Let's not forget that MX/Antix is a team effort - it takes a team of devs, forum staff, various contributors (financial, translations etc), and to a lesser degree, forum helpers, to develop and keep a Di...

Re: Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)

The responses are as I expected.

So any OEMs out there that want a suitable OS for their equipment, that is suitable for a wide variety of everyday tasks, could do a lot worse than sponsor/partner MX Linux ;)

Daily use of MX Linux (and Antix if you use it as well)

I often wonder what people use Linux for - years ago, it wasn't really up to the task of regular Desktop/Laptop use. Many native programs were buggy or just not up to the task. Nowadays, apart from a few specialised programs, Linux can do all that Windows and IOS can. But what do most here actually ...

Re: Thunar acts strange browsing Galaxy S4

I can confirm this, but with a Galaxy Note 3... not something I do often, so not sure when it started happening. System: Host: mx18 Kernel: 4.9.0-9-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 6.3.0 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3 Distro: MX-18.3_x64 Continuum March 14 2018 base: Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) Machine...
