Re: Combine Several .doc Files to One?

NevilsStation That won't work. The unix/linux commands like cat work with plain text files .Your .doc files have many many format commands included that can't be handled. To see, try to open one of your .doc files in featherpad. You will have to cut/paste the contents of each .doc file into one new ...

Re: snapshots with nvidia

Thanks for the reply -------but: I'm not going to worry with the old machine - takes too long to make snapshots. The new machine had an xorg.conf file, but I deleted it to see if it was needed - was not. I rebooted in "safe" and later "failsafe", neither got to a desktop. Tried commenting out the li...

snapshots with nvidia

I have been using MX17 on 3 machines and have made snapshots on them, both preserving accounts (for backup) and resetting accounts (for new installs) with no problems. On the two machines with Nvidia graphics I have used the nouveau driver which has worked well. The other day I installed MX (differe...

Re: ssd trim

Thanks everyone for the suggestions (especially to read the manual - I did!). So how about to my original question: "I don't keep my system on all the time and don't know when/how cron runs, so my question is how should I run trim (fstrim-mx) on my machine?" If my machine is not on when cron is supp...

Re: ssd trim

Thanks All I'm checking all the suggestions and will accept any more. Looking online much info is more than a few years old. What I got was a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB. I partitioned it to hold several OS's and have a 4TB HD for data. Still sorting things out. I won't close this out just now. See if any...

ssd trim <Answered>

I just installed an ssd. I have my os on the ssd and my data on a hd. I read that you should run trim for the ssd and found that MX has fstrim-mx in /etc/cron.weekly. I don't keep my system on all the time and don't know when/how cron runs, so my question is how should I run trim (fstrim-mx) on my m...

modify basic firefox setup

How would one modify the basic firefox setup that would be used for all new users on a new snapshot? If I copied my .mozilla to /etc/skel, would that cause some conflict with each user having the same xxx.default folder in their .mozilla directory?
