Re: MX 17 Repository: The VLC Thread

Current vlc from stable repo won't use hardware VDPAU acceleration (in my case). Even though it is turned deliberately on via settings.

Updated vlc from test repo does it right:

Code: Select all

avcodec decoder: Using NVIDIA VDPAU Driver Shared Library 430.40 Sun Jul 21 04:55:58 CDT 2019 for hardware decoding

mitigations=off

After all those ‘meltdown’, ‘spectre’, ‘Foreshadow’, CVE-2019-8912, Zombieload and “SACK Panic” patched with recent kernels we(me) now have palpable performance drop on intel CPUs  Recalling dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/testfile bs=512 count=5000000 simple test from 2018 now I have 196 420 MB/s vs 1...

Nvidia proprietary driver to choose

Let me say first that I do like MX much. And I've been using it for 2 years  The only thing that still gets me confused is nvidia driver install here. ddm-mx now doesn't let you get one from debian backports anymore. It's Test repo as a 2nd option instead (why btw). Also with test repo dri...

Re: MX Updater broke my system

If you enable onlyoffice (Squeeze) repo again, I suspect the same problem will recur, regardless of your statement that everything is fine on your 2nd computer. why? 1st system had been broken right after testing repo packages were installed over stable ones. I don't count onlyoffice (Squeeze) as a...

Re: MX Updater broke my system

desktop means 2nd comp. surely.
There is no point wasting time to revive broken 1st one. Let this be a lesson not for me only.

Could you confirm that this Squeeze version of onlyoffice is STILL installed on your system?
yes it is.

onlyoffice (with its repo enabled) is on my second desktop as well. With no issues there.

Re: MX Updater broke my system

Please post the output of apt policy libavcodec57 And I've just noticed that you didn't follow my instructions for the emergency downgrade so try that again but this time don't add -f to the apt-get dist-upgrade command. I think Stevo is right and we probably need to uninstall the problematic packa...

I have in the past (last year) found the MX test repo activated, after I had Cancelled or Broken out of the MXPI, apparently leaving the MX test repo activated.
[Or maybe as mentioned in an instance when lights went off ]
might be the case

Re: MX Updater broke my system

I concede the system is not fixable. Yet the only thing that freaks me out is how that could ever happen. Why that effing updater decided to install from testing repo? But anyway there's no option now other than reinstall (((
Thanks everyone for responsiveness
